Very Nice, as with many others I really like the color of the racks!! In my younger days I did quite a few Euro mounts, always enjoyed doing them.

Just pan seared the loins whole in some bacon grease and butter. I dry brined them 24 hours uncovered in the fridge and also put some garlic salt and onion powder on them

It’s surprising how quick they go when I have all the supplies and can just do one right after the other

yeah these dark horns would have looked great as a euro

Well, I wasn’t supposed to hunt this evening as the ol’lady wanted to get her nails done. Stuck with kid duty. I went a few times this week and only saw a few doe and hogs. Cameras haven’t been showing much so no big deal. She gets home at 4 pm and says the nail place is closed. It takes me 25-30 mins to get to my stand. Can’t kill one from the couch, so I grab my new .243 and head out. I get in my stand and the wind is at my back lol. Ok all is not lost, I’ll hunt the sides and behind me as best I can. I see the back end of a deer 110 yards from me. The deer was walking away from me and went into some thick stuff. I used my call to let out a bleat. Nothing. So I keep glassing the area. I see a flicker of a tail in the area where I saw the deer earlier. Head is down and I only see a small portion of the body, a really small portion lol. I then see antler!! Not much of one, but it’s something. I let out two small grunts from my grunt tube. I get back to glassing and nothing. No movement nothing. So I take my rifle up and rest it on the backed the stand. I zoom the scope in to hopefully see the buck again and maybe get a shot if he showed himself. Ten minutes go by and nothing happens. I’m thinking he bedded down and I’ll try to wait him out- well till dark anyway lol. All of a sudden this buck pops up 20 yards from where I saw him and is hauling ass towards me. He’s pissed and moving with a purpose. He stops 30 yards from me and looks straight up at me lol. Crap!! I dial back the scope as he quarters away from me. I take a 35-40 yard shot and he donkey kicks!! I watch him then run around the corner of the opening and out of sight. As he was running, I could see the blood jetting out of him. I give him 15 and climb down. Tracking him was easy as can be and he only made it 60-70 yards before he piled up. Not a monster deer by any standard but it’s late in the season and I wanted one more for the freezer. The .243 did great and it’ll give the ol’lady some confidence knowing it’ll knock down deer without issue.

Never been more proud of a doe haha. Shot this one this evening with Grandpa’s pre-64 Winchester 30-30. Such a cool gun and special hunt for me. First time ever taking a deer with iron sights, I like the extra challenge  70yds and dropped her like a bag of hammers. Have a video, will try to post later

I only managed to kill one deer this year. I spent most of my hunting season focused on an Alaska bear hunt. I managed to get out on the last day of Virginia bow season. It was a less than ideal morning. I didn't get to the woods until about 830 and someone was parked in my spot. I was forced to pick a random spot, got my saddle in the first tree that looked decent to climb and less than 5 minutes later I connected with this wonky 4 point. He was chasing does right at me and I got him to stop at 8 yards. Not bad for a Northern Virginia public land last minute blind setup. VA 2020 Bow Buck.jpg DIY Euro mount.jpg

I have 3 days left to hunt. If it forms, it’s getting shot. The trophies have eluded me.
