I only have the bow and the case it came in.

I honestly can't wait to get shooting. It's my first bow. Fortunately I live a short walking distance, and even shorter driving distance from a 10-75yd archery range so ill be able to get a ton of practice in whenever I want.

Do you have any recommendations on releases or sights? I'm going to pick up some arrows from my local archery shop. Turns out there is a decent one near by and id love to be able to support them.

Arrow rest, peep sight, release, arrows (I see you're currently working on that), broadheads (if hunting), quiver, sight....
    Here's what I use but I'm a cheap bastard...
Release: Winn Free Flite (many other good options)
Sights: so many options. I use a cheap 3 pin Cobra (I removed 2 pins and just shoot with one) also, the brightest fiber optics you can get.
Quiver: brand not important to me, it just holds arrows and I remove it when I get where I'm going.
Peep sight: I like one with a relatively large opening because I'm 52 and need all the help I can get.
Broadheads: you'll get a million responses on that; I love 100gr, 3 blade Muzzys but there are so many options it's crazy
Rest: I have a QAD Hunter dropaway, love it but there's several great options out there.
Have fun! Bowhunting is about as good as it gets!

Well season over...no deer to put in the back of Tacoma. After many years of no hunting I got back in it this fall and had a great time. Can hardly wait for fall 2021!

If it was me, here's what I would do.

I would use the BP card for other huntig essentials. Treestand, hooks, bowholder, Block Target, etc....things of that nature. Obviously $100 won't cover all that, but a chunk of it.

For setting up the bow, seek out a pro shop. They will have the tech skills to get you set up and more importantly, getting your bow tuned.

Rest - You don't need a $200 Drop-Away to get started. My son has been shooting a Whisker Biscuit for six years. His field points and broadheads (Magnus Stingers & ViperTricks) group together out to 50 yards. Easy to install, setup and tune. No moving parts. Lancaster Archery, my shop, sells them for $50-$60. When bowunters I know and respect have put 30-40 elk on the ground, along with a truck load of deer, bear, moose, sheep, etc...set their bows up with biscuits, I'll listen to what they say.

Sight - Again, a simple 3 or 5 pin sight is more than adequate. I have TruGlo on two of my bows and a Montana Black Gold Widowmaker on one. You do NOT need 3 axis adjustabiity. And it's $200+ price tag. At least not yet anyways. You should be able to do a sight for ~$75. The MBG is a little more expensive, but it's a solid sight. The TruGlo I have on my Mathews FeatherMax is 12 years old. Showing a little wear. Solid as a rock.

Quiver - I currently use a Fuse quiver. I think it was about $60. While the Tight Spot quiver is really nice, it's also $150. To hold 4 arrows.

Release - This is something that is extremely personal. I'd recommend trying different ones. There are a bunch of good ones for less than $100. I'm currently shooting a Tru-Fire Edge Foldback. Pick on that feels good to you.

Arrows - Again a ton of choices. Easton, Carbon Express, GoldTip, Black Eagle, Victory.... all are good. And within each brand are different types and price points. When choosing spine (or arrow stiffness) it's better to be over spined a bit then under spined.

Broadheads - save for a later date after your bow is setup, tune, and you've had a chance to shoot it a bit. Only recommendation I'd make now, is to not let anyone convince you need to shoot mechanical broadheads because of poor arrow flight. Mech's are bandaid to poor arrow flight. Not a fix. A tuned bow is a tuned bow. And it will group field points and fixed blades together.

And Welcome to the board. Lots of experienced guys on here, so ask away.

Awesome thanks for all of the info.

So Tru-glo is a decent brand for archery gear? I'm a big firearms guy and tru-glo is something you typically stay away from.

Need to make my way to the pro shop. I'm going out of town for work on the 8th so I probably won't make it there I until I get back in February.

I think one of things I'm most excited about is, unlike a day at the gun range, there is little to no cost to spend an afternoon shooting my bow.

Not sure about Tru-Glo optics for guns, but I still have one on my Mathews LX and one on my FeatherMax. I like the Carbon Hybrid alot and would not have an issue replacing either of my sights with that. My son has a Fuse on his Mission Riot for six years. Been a solid sight as well. When I bought my Hoyt HyperForce in 2018 I wanted to upgrade all components. I put a TRU Ball Armottech Axcel axis adjustable sight on. $250 and within a month I pulled it off and replaced it with the MBG Widowmaker. The MBG Rush is a great sight as well.

The only negative on the lower cost sights is that the sight ring/housing and some other components are either carbon or some type of plastic. Since I planned on using my new setup for elk I wanted an all metal sight That comes with a price. Just think the demands of an elk hunt will place a bit more emphasis on robustness than my normal treestand hunts for whitetails.

Just one thing to keep in mind...bowhunting gear is very personal. And what works for me and my confidence in it, might be different from others.

I am also rocking tru glo optics and quiver

I opted for a drop away rest but only because I got a really good deal on it. Two of my friends who have bow hunted thier entire lives are still rocking a whisker biscuit.

just buy the bare minimum while you’re getting started. I’m probably upgrading my sight to a 7 pin before next years elk hunt, but aside from that everything else is staying the same

Went over to an older gentleman's house that I work with and he told me to bring my bow. He gave me some stuff he had laying around and set it up for me on my bow!

Well I caved today. After a long season and passing on a good amount of deer, today I just felt like shooting. I haven't had a doe within bow range in a month so I told my buddy; I'm tired, frustrated and shooting whatever walks by. So I did.
Quartering away at 28 yards, this is the entrance.

He went about 70 yards. Prolly shouldn't have shot a 2 year old but I'm not gonna beat myself up about it. Also: I still have a doe tag.

Dude ain’t no shame in that at the end of the season. If it’s brown, it’s down is my motto in the last few days I’m hunting.

hell I had such an abysmal hunting season, I’m taking off work and driving to my land in Texas to shoot as many pigs as possible. Plus I need some pork for sausage
