    Hi All,

I just picked up a 2016 TRD Sport that came from Canada. Little did I know how problematic this could be...

I was just at my local dealer in WA state and was told I have to take the truck to a Canadian dealer for the frame recall/campaign.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Ok, I just spoke to someone else at the dealer and they said the reason they can't do anything is because WA state is not considered a cold weather state and they don't actually have the compound. So... looks like we'll have to make a trip to get it checked.

OP, might be worth asking another dealer or calling the Toyota Customer Care line (the 800 number is in the warranty booklet if you still have it). May not get a different answer but worth a few more calls, especially with the border closed. If you open a case, and tell them you can't get to CA due to Covid, maybe they can figure out something for you. Also, not a bad idea to have a paper trail just so the timeframe on the replacement doesn't run out on you.

Worth a shot ... and best of luck to you !

Gray market vehicles; it sounds common mfg denys warranty claims in countries vehicle wasn't built for/allocated to.

I dont think the frame recall applies to 2016+ trucks.

A service advisor/rep initially told me they couldn't do the tsb/frame inspection and treatment on a Canadian truck and when I explained to them that it's now registered in Michigan and was imported so it's been converted as required by law, they put me on hold for a min then came back and said no problem.

Question for you, though, does your truck have automatic climate controls? If so, is the temp display in Celsius?

Working for large auto groups near the US boarder for many years I can tell you there is a difference between US companies and Canadian companies. Toyota USA and Toyota Canada are two different entities. Some warranty work can be done however something like a frame swap if the frame was found to be bad would infact have to go back to Canada to a deal to have the warranty work repaired and processed.

Yeah, the climate controls are in celsius. And like a lot of other folks I have searched high and low for a solution with no luck. I asked the dealer this morning and they said you couldn't change it. The pretty much blew me off... This is the same dealer I bought our Sequoia and Tundra from and I expected a lot better service than we got.

And WA state gets a ton of snow on the eastern half of the state so not sure why we're not considered a cold weather state.

I would think there's a good chance, that Toyota America won't reimburse the American dealer for warranty work on a vehicle that was bought from a different corporation,,, Toyota Canada, so that's why they're not helping you. As @Lawfarin mentioned, there is a Toyota America and a Toyota Canada,,, two different entities.
It's also believed they do this to protect pricing, since the value of the dollar isn't 1-1.

What?? WHAT?? You've GOT to be kidding me... WA. not a 'cold weather' state? Now I've heard everything.
I live in the very north-east corner of WA. 40 miles from the Canadian border. It's currently 24* degrees out (Sat. - 1-2-2021 1 PM) and we just got 12" of snow two days ago. (That I'm still clearing from the doorways..)
What dealer told THAT BS.??? I'd have a serious conversation with THAT guy... Are you on the west coast?

Yes we do ... East of The Cascades anyway. Lived here for 20+ years now. What everyone seems to forget is 'Seattle Does Not Equal' the 90% of the rest of the state. We got (here) 12" of snow two days ago and I'm still doing 'clean-up' with our plow truck and just finished shoveling all the snow by the doors that slid off the roof, just to be able to get in/out ...

Wonder if its similar like buying a polaris snowmobile in canada, and trying to get warranty on it in the u.s. Polaris won't accept a warranty claim on their sleds sold in canada. They told me it has to go back to a polaris dealer up there.

Don't they hardly ever salt the roads in WA, and when they do it's only specific roads needed for infrastructure maintenance/repair in the big cities? The cold doesn't corrode the frames, the salt+water does.

Yeah, this was the Toyota dealer in Kirkland. She did mention that part of designating a state as a cold weather state also included whether the state used a lot of salt or not (which apparently WA doesn't use enough to qualify!).

Sounds to me like they're handing you a big load of crap... Just trying to worm their way out of fixing the problem. I'd ask her where she gets her stats from. Sounds like she's just pulling stats out of her butt. I'd also remind her that even though King County thinks it's the entire state of WA. ... It is not.
