NorCal Skiing and BS Thread

Kirkwood yesterday:

 

It's been dead up here. I have had to cut so many instructors hours. We are about 10% of lesson bookings and it the height of peak season.

 

Ooof. That's a bummer.

 

Went to squaw the other day. Saw this pretty sweet Toyota.

 

I also see it pretty dead - not from a commercial point of view, but simply from a crowd perspective... But I find it strange that some articles are claiming that there is a large number of visitors to the area...

 

I think the Nevada side is busier the California side. But driving through South Lake it was pretty busy. My wife went to Jack in the box around 1pm and it looked like this.

Note: Not a snowboarding/skiing question.

I might be a bit late in asking, but I’ll give it a go. I’m feel still fairly new to the NorCal area and wanting to do a day trip the mountains for a bit of photography of snow and any good snow scenery. I’m in San Jose, so whatever is in a 150 - 200 mile radius. I have bugger all knowledge of the Sierra’s, but looking to go exploring and seeing what I can find. My Tacoma is 4x4 (not crucial knowledge, but just throwing it in there). I am going to most likely head east on Highway 120 and see whatever I can find.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'd suggest starting with a basic loop around Tahoe. Get acquainted with and do the tourest stuff first.

 

What you’ll find is 120 runs into Yosemite and 120 up over park is closed for winter, I’m not sure you’ll find much snow in the park, hasn’t been a great snow year.
Hwy 88 is open year round , run up to the snow line , take some pics and turn around.
Tahoe is full of traffic and tourist this time of year, if you want less BS head for 88 or 4 but 4 is closed up past the snow line but you should hit snow before the gate as Bear Valley ski resort is up hwy 4.

 

Anyone have a pass for this Saturday at Sierra at Tahoe? Wife wants to join her friends but they're sold out. Cash money in hand or lap dances (from me).

Had a fun half day at the local resort.

Love sleeping in then skiing ten runs and having lunch at home! Kiddos included.
