There are other factors that reduce fuel economy in the winter. The fuel is just a part of it.

I've seen the biggest difference by changing my cruising speed.

I agree that you don't notice as much difference being a light-footed driver. I rarely exceed 2500 RPM's. :turtleride: the only time I really feel it is when I floor it, which doesn't happen often.

I'm still torn between 285/75's or 295/70's. After seeing a picture of a 4runner with 295's, I'm leaning that way. I'm just waiting for my wheels to arrive at Performance Off-road. Then, I'll have to make a decision.

    "ThiccRunner" LMAO!

Probably the pros. Haven't had any issues with the Maxx yet. They're just harder to balance because of how heavy they are

Fuel is a big part of it. Other part is high idle and warming up. Not unusual to see 2+ mpg different once they switch to winter blends.

I'm telling ya, move over to the non-commie side of the river. Plenty of quality shops here.

True, the fuel does reduce fuel economy, as well as the other things you mentioned. Also, increased wind resistance from colder, denser air.

But my point was mostly that driving habits, cruising speed in particular, affect fuel economy more. I have never heard of anyone losing 5+ MPG from winter blend fuel. But, I have lost 5 MPG by driving 85 instead of 65.

Agreed with what @Shellshock said! I lost weighs on a tire somehow, and had them rebalanced at Discount Tire, and still had a slight wobble. I took it to my off-road shop the following week, smooth as silk.

Maybe not 5 but 2-3 is fairly common. I typically go from around 20 down to 17. My last tank was 16ish

I'm really curious how those work. Have you found any good articles or videos that explain the science behind it? I might consider that as well.

Yeah, I definitely lose a little in the winter. I just can't say how much exactly is because of the fuel and how much is because of other factors.

I usually blame more on fuel because I notice it before it gets real cold, but who knows. Lots of things contribute.

Either way, I definitely lose more when I drive like a maniac than I do from winter gas. :burnrubber:
