Are the 3 coil packs on the 3.4L interchangeable? Help please.

Hey e'rybody! Engine newb here. Are the coil packs interchangeable?

I'm in there doing VC gasket and engine tune-up. I'm having to reroute the plug wires bc whoever was in there previously had them all switched around. I'm using the FSM, and I have the wires, boots, packs all matched up according to the FSM diagram. (1-4, 3-6, 2-5). Before I plug them in and eventually start the truck, I just want to double-check that the 3 individual coil packs themselves can be interchanged between cylinders 1,3,5 - because I'm not really sure which pack was attached to which cylinder when everything got taken apart (my buddy helped me, and he was moving too fast before I could get things labeled).

    Thanks!

Not positive but I think they all have the same PN (so they would be interchangeable), not sure why they would be cylinder specific

Yes interchangeable. The wires are not.

ok. what do you mean when you say the wires are not? I know that each of the 3 wires in the set has to run between two specific cylinders. But are there identifying marks on the wires/boots (such as cylinder numbers or something) that tell me which wire goes to which cylinder? I noticed that there was a "G" on one, and on the two others there is a "1". Not sure what that means.

Because of the wire length to the spark plugs

I understand that about the wire lengths. Let me ask this a different way, bc i'm nut sure if I'm being clear about my issue.

Are the wires marked with cylinder numbers? I don't see any markings on them. If they are not marked, do I just go by their length? To be clear, these current wires were never removed from the coil packs when we took everything off for the VC gasket job. What I'm saying is that I'm not sure that I reinstalled the coil packs back into their original tube holes (because I don't actually know which holes they came out of bc my buddy just starting yanking shit out when we disassembled everything before I could label things :().
Is each of the 3 spark wires in the set specific to a pair of cylinders, OR is each wire generic (other than length) and I'm good so long as I run each wire correctly between each cylinder pair (so long as the wires reach)?

Thanks for bearing with me, I'm just trying not to blow up my engine or something lol.

Wires are electrically close enough the only real difference is the length

They are all close in length just some are a better fit

ok cool. That's what I was thinking too. I'm reinstalling these old ones for now, just to get the truck running again. I'm waiting on some new blue NGKs to arrive in a few days.
I'm wondering if the new NGK ones will be "marked" so to speak, or if they are installed according to lengths.

The coil packs can in any cylinder you choose, the wires need to go back on the cylinder correctly. Ie. The wire from the coil on #1 has to go back to the correct cylinder 2,4 or 6. Etc, etc.

Thanks. I have this diagram already, and I understand the pairings between cylinders. I feel like I'm about to beat my own question to death, but here goes again:
For example - A wire runs between Cyl 1 and 4. Ok, so let's say that wire was removed and used to connect Cyl 3 and 6 instead. Would that be ok (so long as it reached lengthwise)? I'm trying to find out if each individual wire is specific to a cylinder pair. Maybe it is, hence the different lengths of each wire in the set. OR, is EACH of the 3 wires interchangeable and would work between any cylinder pairs, so long as they reached?
Anyhoo, my question and my worrying are probably moot, since the wires are 3 different lengths and I guess can ONLY reach between the appropriate pairs. Right now, i have everything matched up with the correct cylinders and everything fits, so I guess I'm good. That seems to be what @Wyoming09 is saying, especially since each wire is electrically the same (similar).

Wires are all the same other than length, coils are all the same. As long as they are routed correctly and you have the coils plugged into the correct connectors on the engine harness you are good to go.

Awesome, thanks guys! I have the wires running between the appropriate cylinder pairs, so I'm moving on. Thanks for bearing with me. I'm learning a shit ton on this VC and shim job. I'm sure I'll have a few more questions before it's all said and done. Happy new year!

Just looking at few examples on Amazon, the product description for NGKs says they are numbered.

Cool, yeah I saw that. Hoping they are when they arrive. For now, I’m putting the old wires back on (routed and paired correctly), and hoping for the best until the new ones come in. They worked before, so they are probably fine for now. Only thing is I nicked them a little bc they got caught on something in the bay during the engine tune-up. I put some electrical tape on the nicked part.
    Thanks!

I came searching for this exact question OP had. I am getting close to being finished with my valve cover job. I have a 2000 Tacoma 3.4 that needs this service as well but I am currently doing it on my 97 4Runner 3.4. I replaced spark plugs and wires as well with Denso. The rig had ngks in there from previous owner and the wire lengths were much more distinguishable from the new wires I got. They are all different lengths but two of them are damn near the same. I have them matched up correctly. Six to three, four to one, and five to two. I am pretty sure the shortest one is supposed to be from four to one. However I ran that one from five to two and everything seemed to fit just fine. I just wanted to make sure that there was no difference between the wires themselves other than length. I think in my case the shortest wire that came in my new kit is longer than the shortest wire that came off the truck from cylinders four to one.
Another question. I am not a spark plug Guru but the Denso plugs I ordered which I am sure we're listed as the correct part online are not dual electrode. There is just the one. Is this okay or did I order the wrong plugs?
The job over all has gone really well. This was my first time taking this job on and I was careful to bag up bolts and nuts and label things and take notes as I went along. I got the valve covers back on this morning before I had to go to work so now I just got to get the upper and lower plenum back on, screw the IAC back to the throttle body, reconnect hoses and all that jazz.
Anyway, any clarification on the spark plug wire differences and also the single electrode Denso plugs being good or not would be much appreciated fellas.

PS it's been a few months since I ordered the plugs and wires but I just found the kit on Amazon and I am pretty sure that's where I got it. It says something about the world's smallest electrode blah blah but it says it fits both my Tacoma and 4Runner on Amazon. Anyone else use those plugs? Thanks again for any help.
