I didn't have the perfect circumference tool for install. I got it half way in by hand. Then massaged it slowly all around with a hammer and 3/8 extension. The old fashioned way. Everything went smoothly.

You use a micrometer to measure how far to seat it in? There is no lip to catch it for my understanding.

No. I set the seal flush/even with it's opening. The rubber seal is pretty easy to drive into it's metal opening.
