Driveshaft, grease your driveshaft there are grease nipples all along it, that should solve your problem. I have the same with mine, i think a u-joint is going bad, but pump it up with grease and it should stop.

will do..but what if it's coming from the engine?? it's hard to tell since it only happens while I'm moving..I was driving home today had the wife drive and it started..super loud then soft and at weird times..sometimes accelrating sometimes just coasting?? the echo of the barricade sounded like the engine..could a belt tension spring be going bad?? will my belts come loose???

If it only happens when your moving and not when your sitting still it is more than likely a moving part, i.e. the Driveshaft, its like a squeel right, and it happens most of the time when your just trying to maintain your speed with just light throttle? Or sometimes when your coasting?

I dont think it would be your belts, but you can look at them while the truck is running and see if anything looks like its wobbling or something, get it checked out or fix it. And check the belts while the truck is off see if you have any cracks or anything.

Its the more than likly the driveshaft, just make sure you grease them good, there are a lot on the driveshaft, clean the grease points off first then pump them till you hear like a popish noise. Except on the Slip Joint, on the back half of the driveshaft, dont pump too much in there, that has to move when your suspension cycles. If you still have problems do it again, and then comeback here and describe it some more if this doesnt fix it.

Just general muiltipurpose automotive grease. Yes you need a grease gun, get one with a flexable tube between the tube and the end.

I drove with mine for months like it was just making that sound, didnt seem to hurt it, you aint gonna hurt it driving it.

there are 6 grease fitting on it one at the trans...3 in the middle...then 2 back at the axle...some of the fitting are hard to get at. and i would clean them before you try to grease them...it was hard to get the grease to go in before we cleaned them.

man if you could do that would be great..i can usually do stuff on my own..but this is getting outta my range ..so pictures would totally help and tools needed.....

i left for work today it ws 26 degrees outside stayed around 35mph no sound let it warm up for 6min before leaving..but when i left going uphill at 35mph it started up but only at a low volume....seems a little sluggish getting out of 2nd gear but maybe because i'm going light on the gas trying to make that sound..

    heshdog,
You might be better off going to a shop and have them do the grease job. Some of those fitting are hard to get to and the shop will probably have a high powered by air grease gun.

Ill take some in the morning if there is not snow under my truck. there is no need for a air powered grease gun, a hand pump one works just fine, plus the next time it does it you will be prepared, ill probably do mine tomorrow cause mine is making the same noise again.
