Yes the SS3s are all excellent fog lights at their respective price points, and downright bargains when they're on sale.

However bright they are, they shouldn't be turned on at freeway speeds. They are for low speed driving because their pattern is meant to illuminate close to the vehicle.

I'm getting them specifically for the purpose of fog as I go up to the ski hill(mountain) 3-4 times a weeknights and it gets really hairy up there especially when the lines are already so faint.

I don't plan on having them on otherwise as Law's here for modified vehicle are very strict and I don't need anymore attention on a vehicle with tire poke, no mudguard etc

I'm just looking at the beam outputs and the ones on the pro don't have that great of a cut off compared to the max and sport.

 

pro/max's will also help with your de icing problem i believe. @Tuack

 

The pro cut off is a less crisp than the other 2, but when properly aimed won't be an issue for you or oncoming traffic.

This is true based on @crashnburn80's testing

 

I'd go with the pros if cost is a concern. The cutoff is less precise but it will still stay out of other drivers' eyes if aimed correctly. And you'll need the warmth to keep snow and slush melted. The sports will ice up.

 

Anyone know if cali raised 3x2 fogs are road legal? Couldn't really find anything on their site.

 

Not even close. They're just cheap rebranded Chinese pods. No pattern or beam control.

 

yeah, pisses me off keeping them turned off. I've been strangely praying for fog or inclement weather lately so I can use them.

The ambers look pretty cool when they are off though.

 

Went with the Pro's sae fog, will be saving for the ss2 pro for ditch. Hoping they come out with something bigger - lp6 size - for spot.

How often are they putting out these 15% sales btw?

I think the Max spot is plenty of punch for just about any distance, though it would be pretty cool to see an SS7. The optic casting might be crazy expensive though if it were a single piece. With the current optic sizes you could have this fit in about a 4.5" lamp. Maybe a combo (a few spot, driving, and flood).

 

The SS3 Max packs quite a bit of punch especially for the current draw. I saw a dual SS3 bezel on the Diode Dynamics site and will post a few images soon.

Well "soon" happened for New Years! Opening in the bumper was just dead space. Now two Diode Dynamics SS3 pods rest in there nicely. Max is running their fog pattern with the Pro using a Spot optic. A bit of custom fabrication was required, but very pleased with the results.

I'd like to replace the Baja Fogs with DD pods, but that is for a later date

 

Nice use of the dual bracket, but spots may not be very much use if they're aimed in the same direction as fogs (i.e. fifty feet in front of your truck). Maybe when you swap out the Baja pods you can use a different pattern with the spots? Either way, great integration into that bumper!

I looked into the dual brackets myself but they're actually less compact than the normal bezels (3.5" tall instead of 3.3" and 6.9"wide instead of combined 6.6"). I just can't see a compelling reason to use them. I guess aiming both pods in the same direction is easier.

The MAX's are awesome but if I'm honest I do slightly prefer how the Pro's blend into the low beams. Coming from the Pro's I can definitely tell there is more light as things are more defined.

With them on I see no light hitting oncoming drivers faces and with that I am happy. Now looking at increasing low beam performance as they aren’t the optimum choice for distance. (iPhone couldn’t adjust the image dark enough to match what I saw accurately)

I’m in the same situation. I think I’ll just go to an H9 for my lowbeam and see how that is for starters.
