It depends are what type of driving conditions.
In my 04 6 cylinder Tacoma . I got 32 miles after the light came on going up and down hills on PA turnpike. I ran out of gas about 600 yards short of one of the gas rest stops.

My, and all 2nd gen Tacomas have an 80litre tank ( whatever in US gal.)
I've hit the red light, and gassed up @ 65 ltrs = 15ltrs left in tank.
I avg, +/- 15ltrs/100km Hwy. Something we all should be familiar with.
But of course, don't make it a habit of running low to the point the red light comes on, eh?

I have litterally had my gas light come on as I pulled up to the pump at a gas station and put 17.5 gallons in the 18 gallon tank.

I have also driven with the light on so long (stuck in traffic due to an accident) and it was starting to idle rough (sucking up air) and coasted into a station then put 18.5 gallons in the 18 gallon tank.

Pretty sure my light comes on with only about 3/4 a gallon left.

Well there you go. We should all know the limits of our OWN truck, not those of strangers on the internet. They may have been made the same, but things change.

With freeway driving I consistently get 60 miles after the light goes on and pump 20-21 gallons when refueling. Most I’ve gone was 80 miles, never again. With city driving I ran out of gas after doing 30 miles.

Same thing with my 1994 Acura Integra RS. I consistently get 60 miles after the light goes on and have about a gallon left. Most I’ve gone was about 80 miles.

I don’t push it til empty anymore since it’s not a good practice like Marshall R said.

All you Experts here's one for y'all:turtleride:
Ok guys I'm gonna throw a wrench in this whole thing.
I drive a Tractor Trailer on the Fuel Tank it says " Capacity 75 Gallons". Right under that is says 71 USABLE GALLONS.
Soooo the question I am asking how many USABLE GALLONS in a Tacoma tank if it holds 21.0 galons.

I've gone 60 miles or so with the light on, nervous driving for sure, middle of the Everglades, 40 miles back to pavement after a fuel can failure.

Be sure to not acutally run out when 'proving it to here', or it will get far more less 'peaceful'.

    Just for fun.
There is no gas left in the tank when empty before removal?

Unless something on your truck has been changed, you should have a 21 gallon tank.

Nope, stock gas tank, but even the one time I did run it out of fuel (mostly just to see how far running on the light would get me) it only takes 18 gallons. I think that one time it took 18.75. I put 19 in it after running it down past empty and that started the occasional cold weather evap code cycle, obviously over filled.

    :notsure:

Typically, I will drive about 360+/- miles before fill up, then I'll take on about 19 gallons.

So, roughly I have about 2 +/- gallons remaining.

The light is just a reminder to get my a55 to the pump.

Pretty consistent. Average MPG over the last 6 months is 19.1 mpg. Its been falling since Winter has gripped us and winter blend fuel hit in October. Now, I'm getting about 18 mpg.

I may recover some of the MPG when I replace the U-joints and serp belt system. They are both getting questionable.
