For sure. I definitely wouldn't use them all winter. I'm still a little torn about it, but I have the wheels ordered already and figured the MT's might be fun on the trails.

I hear that. Winter is the time of cabin fever here. I'm not usually one for sitting around the house, either.

I believe in transparency.

I have looked at some. I guess I didn't really consider it, as I just figured I would go all out on this set since I will still have the Toyo AT3's for practical purposes.

Of course, I might change my mind. I still don't have the wheels yet, so I'm sure I'll be flip flopping until the last minute.

Nice! I have looked at those as well. I had their road venture AT51 (I think) on the Tacoma for probably around 40K miles and I thought they were good tires.

These were actually on the short list when I bought the 285's this spring. They look like really good tires as well.

I like the clearance job on the Taco. Can't tell if sledgehammer or maybe the track just bashed into it.

I had dedicated snows on both my wife's Vue and my Fiat. They worked great on both but not well enough on my Fiat to overcome the issue of too much tire for the weight. That car just wouldn't dig down to the pavement.

To @Thatbassguy 's earlier point about the subjectivity of tire reviews. I'm surprised at how well the stock Toyo's have handled the snow. Everything I have read here says they are garbage in the snow and wear too fast. I now have 22K on them and while they are showing some definite wear they did well in both storms this week.
I was out in the thick of it Tues. night on unplowed streets and had no issues at all. Traction control never kicked in and I went through 4-5" of wet snow in some spots
Friday the roads were greasy with slush and I thought they did decent considering.
I'm sure a lot of that is my moderate driving style and may have felt differently at freeway speeds vs city streets.

All that said, I do see some wild peaks in the nearish future.

 

From what I have been told the trails up nort get very muddy come spring/summer. I'm sure having MT's will be a ton of fun.

Nice! Expensive! But, I suppose I wouldn't want to buy something like that on a budget.

 

In what way is it noticeable? Just curious.

 

Braking is way better than ATs, and so is turning. Taking off is better too. Overall it makes winter driving a better experience and gives you more confidence. Never know what the future holds but if at all possible as long as I live in northern Wisconsin I will always run dedicated winters. Tire rack has some videos demonstrating winter tires and their benefits.

 

What winter tires are you using?

We have Nokian Hakkapeliittas on the Scion TC, and it's just plain awesome!
