New TSB for throw out bering

I just got back from the dealership to get my TOB replaced again and they informed me that Toyota was releasing a new and revised TSB for the TOB. They told me that they are coming out with a more durable TOB and slave cylinder that should fix all our problems that we are having.Toyota is supposed to release the new parts at the end of the month for all the repairs. Hopefully the service manager is right about this. My first replacement was back in may and it needs replaced again.

 

Sweet, hopefully the dealer wasn't just blowing smoke up your ass to make you feel better. Its about time

I am a dealership Tech. I can confirm there has been talk of toyota releasing a fix for the throwout bearing. as a matter of fact a couple months ago Toyota came in and requested the Vins of any trucks we had seen with this problem... and of course they got my vin. They told me that they should have a fix pretty soon.... there was talk about it before Toyota fell into all the trouble they have been having.. i think it kinda got pushed to the back burner... but it looks like they are back on it..

 

would love to know this gettin done...free fi on garbage part is sooo important

Does a throw-out bearing apply to manual shift only?

I talked with our Toyota Rep about it today, He told me that what they found to be the problem was the size of the throwout bearing, Toyota will be releasing a throwout bearing that has a smaller inside diameter so that it is not able to be cocked on the shaft like the older ones could, I was told we wont see anything till after the first of the year... but probably not to long after that... as far as warranty coverage is concerned, Im clueless obviously if your in standard warranty its covered but Im unaware if they are gonna do any kind of warranty enhancment

 

ok im kinda oblivious when it comes to mechanical stuff. I had my clutch slave cyclinder replaced at 27000 miles cause it was squeaking really loud and leaking oil all over my floor. I know have 34000miles and it is starting to squeak again. Would this be included in that or is this something different?

 

dan0688 or anyone in the know - If they issue a TSB, will all 2nd gens be covered or will only apply to 60k or fewer miles? My TOB started squealing at about 40k, but I am at 77k now.

 

I wouldn't hold your breath. It doesn't matter what the size is. If there is steel spinning against aluminum, there will be wear, and it will be bad.

 

did you report it to the dealer then? If so you have a good chance of geting it covered.... as far as the warranty coverage Toyota is gonna offer Im unsure of at this time... but ill keep you guys updated as i hear more...
