I'd do both - file a complaint and go to another dealership. My dealership is terrific, as I asked them to do mine at the last service (they also did the fuel pump) and mine was out of warranty - no questions (in and out in a couple of hours).

your describes about the way the truck run is exactly what happened to mine 18 DCSB SR5, but all that was gone after the TSB 92-20 applied, took a round trip 350miles after the fuel pump recall and TSB, i see no more of such issue, happy now

Took my 2019 OR in a few days ago. Brought a print out of the TSB and asked them to update. Service dude said he would have to put in his comments that I was experiencing the issues listed in order to get it installed. I told him to do what he had to do lol. I never really had an issue with the way the truck drove other than the dreaded gas pedal dead zone where you had to mash the pedal to get the truck to downshift. It then would downshift way too low and your engine would scream just so you could get a little more power to pass another car who then looks at you like "you mad bro?". Doesn't do it anymore. I've only put a few miles on the truck since the update so we'll see.

Contact Toyota care. In a few days your dealership service dept. will contact you back in an apologetic manner.

Got the TSB 92-20 applied for my 2019 TRD Pro (03/19 built date) last week. Dealer didn't installed the ECU modification label as described in the TSB. I was able to confirm the engine & transmission Calibration IDs were updated using the free Carista OBD2 app from the Android Play Store and a Bluetooth ELM 327 OBD2 interface from Amazon. Only driven about 100 miles so far, but the truck definitely feels more responsive and the gear shifting is much more desirable than before.
Still no fuel pump replacement available for my truck from Toyota yet.

Does anyone know if there is a similar TSB for the model year 2018? I have these exact symptoms.

I just got back from a 275 mile round trip drive over two mountain passes (Snoqualmie and Blewett) loaded with gear and four people. 4-hi was used for about 45 min to an hour coming home last night (otherwise chains were required) and we idled for about 30 minuted to defrost the truck while loading up to come home and another 30 minutes in the McDonald's drive through line.

I used the ECT button for the steeper climbs, but other than that it was off. The truck drove really nice and I don't usually get this good of mileage on family trips with a fully loaded truck.

I'm still quite pleased with this update.

I had my truck in for the 10k mile service last week so I printed out the TSB and brought it with me. After I brought up the truck hunting for gears, the service manager seemed to indicate that it was normal and 'that's just how these trucks are.' At that point, I pulled out the TSB and said I found online that Toyota had released an update for the ECU, and that it might fix the problems I was experiencing. The service manager said they'd take a look at it.

I picked the truck up late last week and so far I think the truck does feel slightly different. More responsive and less likely to drop into 4th gear at 1100 RPMs and no power.

Today on my highway drive to work I think I noticed better performance under adaptive cruise control. Cruising at 70mph it would normally downshift to 4th and 3k RPMs going over an overpass, but today it only went to 5th and held 2300 RPMs before dropping back down to 1800 once it crested the hill.

I did still have an issue where I got behind someone slower and it slowed me down to ~65mph, but then when I switched lanes the truck downshifted to 4th against and did 3k RPMs to get back up to 70mph. I think this is more of an issue with the way they implemented adaptive cruise control than the ECU tune, but I figured it was noteworthy.

I don't have a way of verifying that my 2020 is now on the correct configuration ID. I tried going to Autozone but their OBDII scanners now are ones that you hook up but then have to bring back into the store to read, and the associates was only interested in telling me I had no codes. I don't really want to sink money into a special reader just to verify that the dealership did their job.

Had my 2020 in for it's 20k this weekend and asked them to see if there was an update for it, mentioned hesitation from a stop and gear hunting on the highway. They had given me the usual "drives normal like any other tacoma" BS in the past but this time I texted the service number that they use to notify you when the truck is ready, and to my surprise they said they would look into it. Got a text a while later saying that the truck was done and they performed an ecu update. No mention of a TSB # on the service paperwork and I haven't checked for a sticker under the hood, but the truck definitely feels better. I agree with people who say it feels like ECT-Lite, downshifts less on slight inclines and mileage so far is the same maybe slightly better.

I am a little paranoid that they didn't actually update it and instead just reset the transmission learning by unplugging the battery. I have a long history with this dealer saying they do things like rotating the tires but then in reality they never touched them.

No sticker for me, but from what I gather the techs are usually lazy and don't do this anyway.

I got the same truck you do, same build date (Texas) I can't believe how much better the truck runs with this TSB 92-20. Dealer didn't put a sticker on mine, I could tell the difference the moment I drove it. (sticker, we don't need no stinkin sticker) I kept thinking my truck was still breaking in, but after this update, this is how it should have driven the past 9,000 miles. Dealership gave me no crap ( Laurel Toyota, Johnstown, PA.) Liked truck before but now, wow!

I have a 2018 and need some TSB love to fix the busy shifting and not holding a gear on hills. I complained and they did "58-18 Vehicle Surge Between 40 and 50 MPH". Not sure why they did that one but I didn't have the list of TSBs at the time. I thought all I had left to get done for shifting was "62-18 Stumble at Wide Open Throttle Takeoff". Now there's this 92-20 but it doesn't list 2018 Tacomas and this TSB isn't listed in the sticky thread linked below. What do you guys suggest for my 2018? Are there any others out there for 2018s not listed in the sticky? Thanks!

Hmm, I'm not looking to plug in and jack this thing up myself. Not qualified for that. Just need the TSB numbers to hand to the dealer and say "do these please". I guess I'll print them out and see what luck I have!

That is the entire point of that post. Either arming you with the current info or DIY.

Gotcha. I see there's 3 TSBs (1 already done) that apply to my 2018 so I'll do just that, print those and hand them to the service guy. I still don't know if they'll do any others, like 92-20 when it doesn't apply to my year truck but maybe someone else in there will chime in or I'll ask when I get there.

    In summary:
92-20 is not applicable to you. Erase that thought from your mind and list of TSBs to carry. This thread is the wrong thread for what you want to know, however I think you have discovered that by now. Go here and reference the first post for everything you need to go into the service center more knowledgeable. I personally keep the paperwork undisclosed and speak with information. They have seen the same paperwork you have multiple times long before you drove into the center.

Your machine is a 2018 automatic transmission. You want the 0062-18 TSB and the associated flash. Take the 0058-18 TSB with you if you want. They both will give you the same end results...04A61.

Have the machine flashed to the 62, drive it like you stole it, and enjoy the results. If that is not to your expectations, then possibly the OVTune for the machine. It is a bit more refined and in depth for best possible results of driving characteristics, but it costs to ride the train...where I think their service is too costly for my preferences. All said and done with the OVTune is a little over $500 +. I really wish that service was a little more affordable for me but it is not.

I did the 62 flash to my 18 and it seems like it has changed my machine for the better.

Be patient with this endeavor, get your TSBs in a row, and hope for the best. TSB service is not a mandate but a service by judgement of replication, explanation, and service decisions, where a recall is mandated by the manufacturer and the feds.

    /C
