I was going thru my ammo cans yesterday. Realized I only had a few 300BO rounds. Also realized I only paid $25 for 50 supersonic rounds. Ah the good ol days!

Heavy subs out of a blackout with a can are a lot of fun. A blackout without a can is kind of like eating cake without frosting. Yea it's kind of good, but waaaaay better if done properly.

I took all our guns out the other day and took pictures of them along with the serial numbers. Thought I'd drop this here to remind others to do it as well, just in case

I do this and have a spreadsheet with each firearm/serial # listed along with all of the accessories for each (sights, mounts, optics, etc).

Then it's all saved on a thumb drive along with other important information and locked in a safe.

I guess it could be, I just done it because I've bought several the past few years and didn't have them documented.

Record should be easily and completely deleted regardless of what media you choose.

Insurance in more ways than one. You purchase a gun from an FFL. It get stolen. You file a claim with your insurance company and they'll probably still cut you a check but they'd prefer to have a serial number so they can claim their property if it's ever recovered. You report it to the police but don't know the serial number. Two years later someone gets shot three cities over and 'your' gun is recovered. Guess whose door is getting knocked on to see if they have an alibi and potentially investigated for straw purchases. Yeah, you can most likely talk your way out of it depending on your legal history, local law enforcement, and how articulate you are but it would be much easier to say "oh yeah, I reported that stolen two years ago. Here's the report with the serial number."

I realize this may sound outlandish to some but this stuff does happen and considering where the political climate is now and where it's headed, certain agencies will be looking for any excuse whatsoever to charge someone with something that will prevent them from being able to legally own firearms. There was a guy with a recent series of videos on YouTube who was in a similar scenario but rather than stolen he sold it completely legally without an FFL. If everything in his videos is to be believed, someone was shot with his gun, BATFE visited, and he showed them the bill of sale. BATFE said based on the number of guns he owns they suspect he is "in the business of selling guns for profit" and issued him a letter to stop selling guns. No appeals process since it's not technically a formal reprimand but I guarantee if that ever happens again they'll throw the book at him.

Having said that, I don't share my list and it's not saved on any of our computers or USB drives. Generate list, double check, triple check, print 2 copies, throw in a safe at home and safe at work, do not save file.

Edit: I used to work at a gun shop that somewhat catered to new/first time gun buyers. Almost every week someone would ask how many guns I own. "I'm not in the habit of answering that question."

Upland and Waterfowl seasons closed here on 12/31 and 12/26 respectively. Gave the Beretta field guns (686 Onyx 20G, Synthetic A400 Lite 20G and Synthetic 391 Urika 2 20G) all a full field strip, cleaning and a nice light coat of oil for their 9 month gun safe vacation.

For these reasons and in case I unexpectedly kick the bucket, then the wife has a basic idea of their purchase prices, approximate value. I mean at least they won't be sold for pennies on the dollar.

I have a running list for insurance purposes. It is required when you have a large value rider on your policy and I dont particularly want to try and replace my collection in the event of fire, flood, or theft

The list is also helpful should you die, the estate can easily determine value etc

My list is documented with replacement value, not purchase cost or whatnot.

If I sell one, I move it to a separate excel sheet in the same document and note who I sold it to and when. No prices there

My method is likely not for everyone but since I also hold an FFL, I make sure everything is well documented so that the ATF won't have any standing when it comes to personal collection and business inventory.

In the state of TN, the TBI may only hold your transfer serial for 24hrs, however there is always a record of which FFL performed the transfer. The transferring FFL is required to retain a record of all transfers indefinitely. Based on that, you can bet law enforcement will be knocking at your door in the event that one of your firearms is involved in an incident. Personally, I maintain a full picture recording of all firearms sold to a third party. Included is a copy of the third party TN CCL or DL. If you don't provide, you will not purchase one of my firearms. Additionally, I keep copy on file with my attorney and in a safety deposit box, so my records are always backed up in multiple locations, in the event of an unfortunate incident......

FFL is whole different ball game that I don't care to get involved in. Back when Obama was in office and EVERYONE was getting their FFL my father in law was trying to convince me that we needed to get one. I took one look at the portion of the paperwork basically saying that you surrender 4A rights for whatever address is listed on the FFL and said hell no.

I don’t have a home based one so very little concern for me on that front...however anything I transfer to myself must stay in my personal inventory for a calendar year...hence my meticulous record keeping
