Take is for when you possess something already.

Bring is for when you don't possess something, and wish someone to bring it to you.

You can't bring your truck to the dealer. You take your truck to the dealer.

I brought my truck to the dealer., (wrong). I took my truck to the dealer, (right).

    /Monday rant off. lol

The only thing wrong with that sentence is the comma after the period, “wrong” in parentheses and the other period.

Also, Mondays aren’t for ranting. Most are trying to get back into the the work week.

These both prove my point. The act of to or from a location depends on who is speaking.
The dealer can ask you to bring your truck in. ... to their location from another location.
You then take your truck in, from its current location to a new one.

The guests taking the left overs to another location is no different than you taking your truck to a different location.
The musical instruments one.... The teacher can ask you bring your instrument with you because she is not currently in possession of it or you. But you then take yourself and take your instrument away from its current location by taking it with you.
