What lift setup should I consider?

I am trying to find the right configuration for my uses. I use my 18' DCSB Off Road as a DD but I live in Colorado and as an avid hunter I am always up in the mountains. I would say 70% of my driving is highway/ streets while 30% is on forest roads which come across some very rocky terrain but time on those type of trails which are very slim. I went with Wheelers on my 1st gen Tacoma and it was so simple as the lift was almost "universal" to most peoples uses. With these 3rd gen Tacomas there are so many different configurations and it seems as if not a single person has the same lift. My main "asks":

    -Leave in stock UCAs
-Do not own a trailer but for hunting I rent (to leave in overload or take out) and do not want sag when loaded. Have heard stories about even just a cooler will create the truck to sag dramatically (im sure this person was over exaggerating).
-Do not want to go over 3" so I do not have to mess with UCAs but also save CV angles
-I also have Falken 265/75/16 so I dont want the truck looking like it skipped leg day (will not consider going to a 285)

Wheelers quoted me on my asks:

-5100 billies all the way around
    -885 coils
    -Wheelers 3 leaf AAL

I had OME leaf pack on my first gen but he was very persistent in getting the wheelers brand. I have also read that people install the ECGS bushing for the needle bearing issue on ANY lift configuration. Wheelers representative said it wouldn't be an issue as they only see it on 2nd gen Tacomas but TW says otherwise...please fulfill me on if there are any better configurations or if this is the correct way to go.

    Thank you!

I’d also consider a higher end shock with that much off road time. For simplicity sake, I think Fox 2.0 would be up your alley

You can’t go wrong with either setup. I recommend not lifting more than 2” for drivetrain angle, etc. And install the ECGS bushing too. I just did a lift and tried to get away without the bushing- that was a mistake. Good luck!

I have 5100's around with Icon AALs. Had to do the bushing so would recommend just doing it as part of the lift.

Save money on the name and get Bilstein 6112/ 5160 with 3 leaf aal and wheelers bumpstops all around. Best bang for your buck, I trusted the vote by most for the kit and am super happy.

I'm looking at a similar lift but haven't decided on coils. How much lift in the front and rear are you expecting out of this setup?

I am also in CO (and from Cali originally - like everyone else here).

I have a 2019 TRD DC OR. I got Fox 2.0s (front and rear) on mine. I also got an add a leaf at the same time. And, I also have Wildpeaks, but I do have the 285s though. I am happy with my setup. Have had it on for about 6K miles now. Been OR a few times. But, it is mainly my DD... with (hopefully) copious amounts of camping May-October.

I did a ton of research... came away with the Fox 2.0s (with coilovers).

    OP I second this
I have 6112s/5160s with a 1.5 icon AAL and have no complaints. Handles everything I need it to. I dont do any extreme offroad. Light trails or making my own as well and they perform great.

Edit: should've said I still have stock UCAs as well

I’m running 5100’s all around 1.5” AAL IN REAR. With SPC’s. I’m at 2” and needed uca’s for a great alignment. IMO UCA’s are needed worth the money

Pretty damn close asks to what I went with.

I’m on fox 2.0’s front and rear on stock UCA’s and the icon 3 leaf AAL in the rear with overload out. Netted me about 2.25 inch leveled lift and it was more like 3 with overload leaf in and front coilovers cranked up.

    Same tires 265/75/16 wildpeaks.

PM me and I can send you some pics of how the set up looks.

If you don't need a lift for approach/departure angles, an option is to go with 255 85 16 on OE wheels. Full 33", no rub, no lift, no trimming needed.

Airbags for the rear to muscle up your load if it sags a bit.

Keep in mind that the axle line is your low point, and tire diameter is the only thing to raise that.

What are the advantages with replacing OEM UCAs when there is no need if you are not experiencing any limitations? Curious

All depends on your alignment numbers. Once these trucks are lifted alignment numbers will vary. Lots of guys will have positive camber , wondering on freeway etc. In my case I lifted my truck my alignment sucked hated the positive camber look , wondering on freeway. 1 alignment later with SPC’s numbers were great. Truck drives excellent. Every truck is different that’s the truth. If I did it again I would’ve done UCA’s from the start.
    Good luck and Enjoy

Wow I didn't know you could search for these things! As you can see within this thread there is not one single answer that is the same which is concerning. Its like going to the doctor and he comes back with a different answer each time.

I appreciate you adding in that you still use stock UCAs. That is very important.

According to Wheelers the 3rd gens come with a 1" lift already. I would get 2.75"-3" total in the front and the same in the back. Total of a 1.75"-2" lift.

Edited:***I would get the following of lift in the front and after everything it will be almost level as we know the Taco comes with a rake so the back wont see as much. Coils will provide the lift.
