I need one of these instead of using my clinometer app on my phone while I try and balance and hold the piece in place. F'n shit show circus in my garage some days o_O

Been working on remaking the base for my bed rack since it was originally made for a second gen tacoma. Profile is much cleaner now, and the way it is designed it will keep the bed more square and likely strengthen it.

    Best weld so far:

    Not great ones:

The biggest purpose is to create a better side profile since the second gens have a taper that the first gens do not.

    Definitely looks a lot better.

But I have a question for you: are you a pirate or what? That is some serious rope! :)

My thought about the 2 piece design was the manufacture did not yet or care to have the means to bend 1/4" material.

They welded the 90° to bolt on and could have easily just welded that 90° right to the base, making it one piece. I thought the same thing at first until I realized that.

Lolol it was apparently used as the back window by the previous owner.

I was going to hang it in the trees for like a home gym pull up bar kinda setup but I think I will just chuck it.

I wouldn't just chuck it, that's pretty cool. I bet if you put it on Facebook or craigslist for free and left it at the foot of your driveway it'd be gone by the end of the day.

Wait... I have a little kid... though I think I'd be waiting a while ha.

Oh and I was taking bets with my buddies if my big tank of C25 would run out the moment I started this project (I have a spare tank so it wouldn't be a HUGE deal but ironic) but instead my Evo blade was dull af on the first cut. Always something.

What's up guys. Haven't posted in here much but had a quick question for you guys. So ive finally move into my first house with a pretty decent size garage and got my beginner welding setup done this weekend. Ive done tiny welding projects in the past but i want to take on something a bit more challenging. Im going to build a welding table. Any Ideas or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a welding cart or a welding table yet?

If you have the room, a table is worth it’s weight in gold. Sheets of steel come in 4’x8’ so I got a sheet of 1/4” plate and 2” x.120 wall square tube and made a table. It’s 8’ wide a d 28” deep because that’s all I could fit. I love love love having a huge, tall, sturdy work piece that I can beat on. It was about $300 in material. Nothing fancy and doesn’t require any fancy welding skill.

here’s my garage and current setup. I plan on upgrading to a titanium 140 mig once I get some more time under the torch. Ceilings are low but it’s deep and fairly wide. I could probably fit a table that big in there.

Ahhh nice. I’d wait for a big project like the table then until you pick up the nicer machine. If you’re planing on upgrading already, I’d just do it now if you can swing it. Save yourself the frustration of that flux welder. You’ll be amazed how much better it performs and how much easier it is to use.

yea ive been debating it. just dropping the coin on the welder and then a gas bottle is a big investment haha.
