Tacoma won't start

When I try to start my 95 Tacoma, the engine does not try to crank and no clicking can be heard. It is just quiet. It is a manual transmission so the clutch does need to be pressed. Even with the clutch down it doesn't do anything. I checked all the fuese and they are all good. Maybe something is wrong with the clutch? Electrical power still works.

 

did you try the clutch start cancel switch?

 

Maybe your battery is dead.

 

I have heard of the clutch start cancel. If I am correct, it helps start the car in uphill situations or something. How would I try the start cancel switch? Do I have to hold the button down or can I just press it once and try?

 

Sorry I forgot to add that all electrical power works.

 

Still could be the battery. How about trying to jump start it?

 

I took in the battery to be charged as the car hasn't been on for about a month now. They told me the battery is bad. I was going to buy a new batter but my dad said to just find a new engine for it. I doubt it needs a new engine but what I don't doubt is that my dad only WANTS a new engine. The truck is basically my dads. He bought it with his money but after my brother was the one driving it when it broke, he is kind of just handing it to us and saying, do what you want, fix it, junk it, or just get rid of it. I was going to try hooking the dead batter up and try jump starting it with a F150 (the 6 wheeler) and try the cancel clutch start to see if it'll start. But what I am wondering before I try it is, will the F150have enough voltage to atleast start the Tacoma?

 

any running vehicle with a good battery will work. you don't need the clutch cancel switch when jump starting (make sure it's out of gear if you do use it).

swapping in a new engine because the battery's dead seems a bit overkill. (and by "a bit," i mean "a lot"!)

 

It will also bypass the switch that is activated when you depress the clutch pedal so if it starts with the button in (you don't have to hold it, just press it once with the ignition on) then you know the clutch switch down by the pedal is bad.

 

I do have it. The button in in the left side of the steering wheel on the dash.

 

I tried jump starting the tacoma using a 6 wheeler F150. The electrical system still works but this time the gauges where flickering on and off while making the clicking noise that you hear when your signaling. I tried the cancel clutch start anyways and still nothing. Still quiet and still not trying to crank. So I know the battery is bad, Im starting to think maybe the starter now.

 

Yup, its the starter. You can try smacking it with a hammer a few times first and see if that frees it up. If that doesn't work then pull it out and bench test it.
