I wouldn't change anything with my truck I love it. You say you're not a tech guy but navigating is one of those items you'll without question get your money back if/when you decide to sell it. It may not seem important right now but its literally one of the top 3 accessories that is requested when people buy used and something that keeps its value over the life of the vehicle. If you plan on running this truck til it dies than nav may be a non issue. Anyway welcome to TW and have fun with your new truck!

My advice is to shop for that truck you want at the price you want it for. It's out there, just may take some time. I love my manual - fun to drive and I prefer it in the mountains. It sounds like you know what you want. One thing I'm glad I haven't done is spend a bunch of money on shit I don't need. My stock OR has gotten me all over the Sierras on hunting/fishing/camping/skiing trips and two cross-country trips.

Thanks for the welcome. I kept my last Toyota 4x4 pickup for 30 years so resale doesn't even enter into my thinking.....;)

I shoulda took the Double Cab (4 doors) It's just me and my younger son...and the Dawg, but if I EVER have to haul anybody else...they better be tiny midgets :) with the suicide doors on the "Access cab" I thought I would love it, but now with both sides opened up...seems like a critical stress point...beside who doesn't need more space....

I wanted the 6' bed my 2000 gave me

I don't disagree (althought I guess I do because I'd get a Chevy over a Ford ;) ), but the guy earlier said that the short bed tacoma (5ft) was just for the looks, but the long bed tacoma (at most, 6ft) was for work. That's what I was disputing.

Oh i getchu man and I agree. But a Chevy over a Ford? Really? That’a interesting. I always though Chevy’s had a reputation for being low quality. I’m curious why u prefer Chevy over Ford

I wouldnt do anything different on my truck, because I weighed out the pros and cons heavily before I bought, so I knew what I wanted and needed. I moved from a second gen AC to a third gen double cab. Most of the time, the only thing in the rear seating area is my choc lab. But have the seats if needed. Yeah, the beds shorter, but it still fits in my garage (the longbed wouldnt), still hauls my dirtbike, still hauls my yard debris. If you get the manual, make sure you test the reverse, its supposedly really tall geared so you have to slip the clutch a lot sometimes, like on a hill backing up...And I think theres an accumulator mod you should do. Happy shopping!

“Want to buy an SR5, access cab, long bed, 4x4.”

I bought the same truck. As others have said, I may regret not getting 4 doors but it’s fun to have something a little bit different. And the sr5 trim is great so far. After swapping the wheels and tires, anyway. Good luck!

I learned how to drive 3 on the tree in a 73ish Ford Econoline at a fishing lodge in AK- it had crazy low miles as it was flown in and could only drive 5 miles each way tops. I really want to put it on my resume, but haven't figured out how. That thing was a hoot empty, and hauled 55 gallon drums of avgas real well.

In terms of the Taco, I'd do very little different- I would consider silver over grey as it shows less of those Colorado pin stripes. I obsessed for almost a year going back and forth SR5/TRD/3rd gen/2nd gen/used/new. Glad I went new, and SR5, (you can add a bunch of the fancy stuff like seat heaters on your own) and zero regrets on the access cab (I had grown tired of hauling people around in my 4runner) the six foot bed is handy in my world, plus I can sleep in the thing with my wife. I actually like the way mine drives because nothing is as gutless as my '91 Pickup was with the 3.0 with an auto behind it...

*****edit**** GET A BED MAT ASAP. I had a gallon of paint about break the sound barrier sliding on the plastic bed.

should have gotten v6, double cab, long bed, 4x4 .

now shopping for one. Will cost me 35000$

should have spent that $13,000 3 years ago

More money on excursions and experiences. Less money on mods. You'll refine what you need and what enhances your experiences along the way.

Thanks! I still have the chrome bumper on the back. Wish it was color-matched.
