Out here, if you go out in the desert, you are always likely to get in a bind. I know where I am and I know I really need a winch for the places I want to explore. "Good talk guys" and thanks for putting up with me.

LoL yeah that's what I'm saying.

Theatrical and industrial rigging and craning, then industrial installation and mechanics, now Quality Control and inspection, to include doing such while rappelling.

Worked on a good number of fly systems, wire rope set ups, and even a rollercoaster recovery system using 1" spydura line. Got to manually valley a train by cutting through a 3" round sling.

Boy that was a fun gig.

Retired round slings are another thing I keep a few of in my recovery box, good tree savers, allow for nifty pick points, substitute for a soft shackle, line extensions etc.

I have a good story on why I have a foot long piece of 6X37 in my garage. It's to remind me... every damn day I live.

Got my 71 Land Cruiser stuck so many times. And every time some body came along to help. I guess that is why I can't just drive on past now a days.

Yea. I bird nested 150' od 6x37eeips 60mm and about killed myself and another engineer during a test of a mooring control and winch I designed. This was a long time ago. I had a tech cut a piece for me and I look at it every day. When I retire I will throw it away.

That's my favorite. Walking into someone's garage and seeing a chunk of wire rope hanging

60mm is huge for me! Shit the biggest commonplace bolts for me are 90's.

I will try to dig up an old photo of it. I was the coolest vehicle I ever had. I traded it for a 66 Mustang. A tree fell on the Mustang and I joined the Navy...long story.

Nice man, crane work can definitely suck when you're a hooker lackey but pays off of you get to become an operator.

Spydura is just a name brand for a synthetic substitute for wire rope.

This is a good group. We should start a thread in some obscure section of TW where we can discuss without the usual bs.

Start it in the recovery section under "Rigging BS Thread" or some such. I'm still waiting to see a picture of this 6' drum and the gearing that ran it.

Wonder if I still have pictures of the drum and more impressive to me the enormous disc brakes for that jumbo-tron install.

The answer is not either or, but both.
My Jeep has a winch. I carry a Hi Lift and an assortment of straps chains and stuff.

I also carry a come along. More than once I’ve used all three at the same time during an extraction.
