I have not had an issue on either URD I have installed. The biggest thing is to make sure the adapter is fully seated on the stock ball with the wedges. Peening over the thread at the set screw has been just fine. When I removed the one from my 2014, it came apart easily enough, but there was no way it was going to loosen up on its own.

Maybe this is the right place to ask this too... is there anything i can do to make the shifter not wave around like crazy when i'm on a backroad? that thing is nuts and whips all over the place lol

Wanted the shorter throw, and the option to make/buy a shorter shaft to lower my aftermarket knob about an inch. Nothing wrong with the URD, just didn't have the feel I was looking for. I liked it better on my 2nd gen.

Honestly, not really. Some of it is the transmission moving around, and some is the damper in the shaft.

I will also add, make sure that you are not tightening the set screw at the seam where the two little wedge collets join. You want to be 90 degrees from them.

Actually, there is. Somewhere around here is a mod that uses a Ford transmission support. I haven't seen it mentioned in quite a while.

When I first got the Taco, it was something that I was considering, but it did occur to me that if I stiffened up the transmission support, more load would be dumping in there (might not be good?) and the other mounts would be wallowing more (might not be good either). So, I learned to like it for what it was. This is my first direct shift MT. All our other were cables or linkages.

Hm, not something I think I would want to do for the same reasons you mention.

Did you guys replace any fluids or bearings when you added the URD adapters? I saw someone posted about it here, but can find the post as a reference.

if I’m not making sense, tell me.

Nothing other than greasing the ball and delrin bushing. At some point here soon I am going to change my transmission oil out to something else, most likely Redline.

    this and that...
if you can spring for the core i would go that route. you wont have any slop in your shifter. believe that.

I just installed mine yesterday. I managed to install without any cutting. I used a crows foot to get the front bolts loose.
I recommend replacing the provided front nuts with non-stainless steel ones.
Making the front nuts non magnetic was a design flaw.

Also heating the ball portion with a heat gun helps install it over the clamshell spacers.

very short throws and very notchy. I like it a lot. Reverse takes a lot of force, but not too bad.

So, I finally got around and pulled the trigger on this. I live in SoCal, and I struggled to find local shops that have done this mod before. I ended up going to Cali Raised Off-Road in Buena Park. These guys did a fantastic job and were unbelievably affordable compared to some other local shops.

The short shift, I really like it! The throw is short and gear changes are stiffer. The reverse was very tight for the first few days but I don't even notice it anymore. This mod is a must... this is how it should've felt out of the factory.

if you actually like it then i recommend the Core shifter. it's in a different league entirely. the URD is also gonna be pretty loose and sloppy in a couple years.

    This...

And it doesn't take a couple years. Once that "new shifter" feeling wears off, you will likely notice it isn't that much better than stock aside from being a little shorter. The URD on my 2nd gen was pretty good, the 3rd gen I installed as soon as I got the truck home and was never all that impressed with it. The Core shifter is exactly what I was looking for.

The only reason I didn't go with core shifter is that people have claimed that there's an increased transmission sound. How do you guys feel about the noise generated from the core set up?

There is a whine, but with the radio on it's barely noticeable. If you have louder tires, or exhaust I don't think you would notice it. I haven't put it in yet, but there is a rubber isolation kit (just two pieces of metal and a couple rubber pads), that is supposed to help quite a bit. I think @MOC221_ put it in. I'm sure you could come up with a DIY version for very little $$.

Yessir, I put the isolation kit in my Core SS setup. It reduces the noise noticeably.
The tradeoff is a slightly less solid shift feel.

Is the rubber isolation kit included in the core shifter package? Or is that an additional accessory that needs to be bought?
