CRC just stands for Corrosion Resistant Coating. There are numerous coatings that meet that definition and the latest one from Toyota is significantly different than previous ones.

I had it done over the past summer. As far as I could see, they only coated the inside of the frame rails. Nothing else was covered. There was/is visible surface rust on other nearby undercarriage parts, but the service writer told me only the frame rails are covered in the program.

The "box section" parts of the frame are the main areas that rust through. That's why they concentrate on them. Trust me, one thing that Toyota has done over the years is figure out where these things are rusting out. To clarify, only those areas are descaled, cleaned, dried and coated in the latest process. Your whole frame is covered under the program (not the coating) if you meet the requirements. (In case anybody mistook what you wrote to mean that only those areas are covered under the extended warranty.) And yes, I do understand that almost everybody's frame has rust in other areas. Look under any competing brand and see if their frames are rust free. They're not.

If it isn't CRC brand, what is it? Do you happen to know?

As I've stated before, it doesn't matter if its Wesson Oil. If they inspect your frame and apply it, you're covered. If you don't, you're SOL down the road.

I didn't get a letter but I looked at my owners page on Toyota.com and this recall just popped up. I called my dealer and they will do an inspection with my next oil change. He said they have to inspect the frame first and then they will set me up to do the CRC coating. He said they are backed up about 2 months on the CRC applications. Truck is going in this Saturday for an oil change and the inspection. The frame has had some sort of coating done before. It looks like a rubbery/tar type of coating if that makes sense. It definitely was done long ago. Truck has lived in the northeast since new but I crawled under again last night and other then some typical rust, the frame looks pretty good. I also did see a few plugs in the frame up where the cats are.

Looks like Toyota went back to 2011 for this campaign, just another reason I'm glad my 2006 have been given a FF coating similar to how Toyota is applying their CRC to the frame annually since 2014.

My 2013 is scheduled to get the inspection and application , going to the dealer 2-05-2021.

I have some reservations about what the dealer will damage while doing this, but the plus side of things is my truck has been Fluid Filmed for many years with a yearly reapplication , so I feel that puts me ahead of the rust etc..

I'm not arguing that. I'm just genuinely curious.

Frame inspection completed this past summer, they concluded that it qualifies for the CRC coating. Had to wait for their techs to get trained in the coat procedure, which was delayed due to COVID. Techs have been trained, now they’re waiting for the people’s republic of Jersey to approve the coating, this state never ceases to amaze me...they need to spray CRC all over Jersey instead, but it’s too late, the state’s completed corroded...to include it’s frame and body.

Many TW members have extreme disdain for dealers.......After reading a number of horror stories about the CRC coating, I took my 2015 Sport, always garaged, 35K miles, and had it inspected. I had a nice discussion with the service writer, he explained and showed me the process they use. He told me that my frame technically did not qualify for the coating (minimal surface rust and zero debris in the boxed porting of frame that they coat). He said in the interest of customer relations they would coat the frame, which I gladly accepted. They did an excellent job. Thirty days later the truck was in for a chassis lube and tire rotation, and they cleaned whatever coating that had "seeped" from the boxed and capped portion of the frame.
(in the interest of full disclosure - I have purchased 6 Toyotas from this small town dealer and have known the owner for over 30 years) Perhaps my dealer is the exception.

small world. I also live in Newington and have the same truck as you!

Which dealer are you going to for the CRC? I have my inspection this Saturday at Middletown Toyota.

I don't think yours is an exception. It depends who you have working on your vehicle. But the biggest thing, perhaps, is that people just like to complain so you rarely hear the good stories.

Can you take a pic of where these plugs are? I want to check my 2005 to see if it has them...if not I want to go buy a set.

Unfortunately I did not take it in myself. My Pops volunteered the arrangement due to work restraints. He claims it’s in the rocker panel area. I’ll get under there some time in the upcoming days and see if I can spot it. The coating itself isn’t visible but the plugs may. I have very little rust in general so I took the warranty work as a precaution.

I got the letter and took it to a dealer for the inspection/treatment this past fall. Inspection found no issues and so they went ahead with the treatment - glad I have some protection from the salt here in PA but even more thrilled to have some "warranty" coverage on the frame going forward. I took some pictures for those interested what it looks like. The waxy coating is oozing out from the inside of the frame rails and I can see plastic plugs inserted in several places to keep water out. IMG_20201031_111249.jpg IMG_20201031_111307.jpg

Thats great, but you need to be proactive on the exterior part of the frame which Toyota did nothing.
