When was the last time you were on the side of the road with your hood raised?

When was the last time you were 20 miles from the nearest town, without means to access a phone, when the above happened?

That's what reliability is. It's something that we practically take for granted these days. Threads like this remind me how we tend to forget what the"good old days"were really like.

Reliability!??, this is the 3rd gen forum, shouldn't you be asking about Raptor lights or other "Cool" mods?

When the zombie apocalypse gets here, it means my truck will fire up and reliably plow through the mass of flesh eating walking dead. I expect some dings and dents but no engine or suspension failure. Re-evaluating 35s for a better approach angle over the piles of corpses of the schmucks who didn’t buy a legendarily reliable Tacoma.

Haha reliability is touchy feely stuff, the stuff marketing departments love to push because it means a feeling.

Durability is definitely a measurable function, which means those less than durable vehicles don't want to publish the numbers. They publish reliability lol.

Must be using the Bizzaro World dictionary:
Reliability (Re* lie* a* bil* a* tee) A condition where a vehicle's frame will suddenly snap in two.

    195,000 miles. 2002 SR5 Ext Cab.

Replaced the clutch, o2 sensors and Catback. None of these stranded me on the side of the road. Otherwise basic maintenance.

Here is my definition of reliability: I joined the Navy back in the early 80's and when I got to my first duty station out of boot camp (nuke theory school in Orlando FL), I bought myself a used truck. It was late-70's orange Toyota pickup with a roll bar and Marty McFly lights. I loved that damn truck! I spent 10 years in the military and drove that thing up and down the east coast to just about every sub-base on the east coast. The truck had that 22R four banger that would just not die. After 10 years of hard use by me, I finally sold it to an incoming student at nuke prototype training site I taught at. I was at that base for a few years after I sold the truck, and I would always see it buzzing around town (it was easy to spot!)

Anyway, that my friends is how I gauge reliability! I have been driving Toyota's ever since.

Personally, reliability means when I press the gas pedal, the truck moves faster than 10 mph. Coming from a 14 Nissan Versa with a bad cvt transmission that died at 69k miles, I’m never going back to Nissan ever again.

My 2008 TRD, one set of tires, a couple windshield wipers, regular oil changes and a couple air filters in a 5 years. Sold it in 2013 for $24k, paid $30k out the door. Never went to the shop for any repairs. That’s what I want from my 2021.

Yeah! I got to tour the Nummi plant in Fremont when I was in high school. That's also where my 1st gen was built.
