I've gone through the whole Vagabond thread. Tons of good info there, and lots of rabbit holes you can dive into. Still need to put more thought into my ideas.

    Just the basics
While I understand the baseplate idea it adds weight. I was comparing weights and costs for the X1 and Vagabond and it seems as though it's a wash. They're very close. I'm not in the market yet but I'm leaning back to the Vagabond.

I've been thinking of 3 of these to at the outer edge of the 3 opening hatches. I had one on my JKU and the light output was fantastic. Sure, you can find much cheaper lighting such as stick on LED strip lights but these things are well made and look good.

Edit: Also, they mount with 3m high bond tape so you can put them anywhere.

    https://www.amazon.com/Wrangler-LED-Tailgating-Done-Right/dp/B076KR77Y9

I would hard wire them of course and also probably put a combination of a pin switch and a button switch so they could be turned off completely during the day but could be 'on when open' at night.

I would estimate 80lbs or so. I had already done the entire floor and doors so going the distance. The foam is super light its the 80mm butyl stuff that adds some weight. Considering the weight of the truck it was not the fat shedding :bananadead:it needs for sure but it's nice. The stereo sounds way better that's for sure.

Just got off the phone with Spencer tonight. Good conversation, answered my questions i would say anyone on the fence just call or email and be patient.

talked about the bed rails he says they don’t recommend replacing. I will probably leave mine as is and maybe upgraded if needed and see how it goes.

For those of us with relentless bed caps on 2gen they have redesigned slightly added a trim peace. this should not be an issue if it is they can design or come up with a solution later to make sure we have a seal tailgate to camper.

lastly there was miss information about fitting 1gen, 2gen and 3rd with the redesign that second gens caused they changed up the shell a little bit too fit across all 3 generation. So there should be no concern later on.

Don’t have a install date yet but cindy hinted to a month out or so for me. my guess feb for me.

so in other words.. they redesigned the bottom perimeter (excluding rear door closure) to fit the smallest box of the three different gens and allow adaptability to the larger boxes. One size for a 5' bed and another size for a 6' bed that fits all three gens..

Key question is how will the "adaptability" to each gen impact look, fit and dimensions.

As long as it didn’t get smaller to fit on the 1st gen should be okay. Curious what changed. I hope it did not get any taller as well.

when we talked it was brief but it was only 3/4” on the rear door/frame that had to be brought in so it fits across all 3 not much was changed just what was needed. I think the 3gen tailgate sticks out a but more which is what this was based off in the beginning. Im not worried. Btw don't go off what i am saying i call and confirm anything you have questions about.

    my 3 main questions where

    bed rail

    tailgate

ability to swap too to a 3gen or 1gen

and asked about weight capacity for the sleeping platform 600lbs plus I'm a big guy so i always ask hopefully change that this year!

@SuperRAD was that you getting installed today? Saw white 2nd gen long bed. Couldn’t tell if it was an access cab or not.

When you inquired about the bed rails did you pose the question about using an aftermarket stuby antenna instead of the shark fin? I replaced my shark fin with a Camry color matched "stuby shark fin" antenna. At the lowest point between roof and GFC I have 1" of clearance. At the shark fin I have 1.5". 2014 DCSB with KBVoodoo rails.

i forgot to bring it up, but with my emails with Cindy she noted the camper will fit and clear with shark fin using factory bed rails. I plan on swapping mine out regardless to an anderson bullet since i have it already.

I think the main issue replacing the bed rails is clearance when the bed flex left or right it has the potential of hitting the roof first before the shark fin.

I wonder if it makes sense to have an unofficial faq on the first point to help with these answers that keep coming up. It also might help SP not get bogged down answering the same thing over and over.

Here are a few questions I've observed, with (I believe) answers:

    • Will the camper fit with aftermarket bed rail caps?
      • 1st Gen: unknown (?)
      • 2nd Gen: not recommended
      • 3rd Gen: yes (?)
    • Will the camper fit with OEM sharkfin antenna?
      • Yes with factory bedrails
    • Will the camper fit on all three Tacoma generations?
      • Yes

yah makes sense same as we set up a doc to track people's color choices and names so we can get ideas. I can add one for common faq's or questions we can link to page one. Thoughts? I would add it to the other one but that's setup so no one can edit it directly.
