Flush mount grill light bar with anti-theft screw cover (no grill cutting required)

In case anyone is interested in mounting a grill light bar without having to cut your grill, here is what I did.

I was told that the Cali Raised flush mount brackets requires you to cut your lower grills to make it fit but I didn't want to do any cutting on my truck so I came up with this setup instead.

The benefit of the flush mount setup is that it allows me to tilt the light bar up or down as needed without having to open the hood and it's easier to clean. The con is that it's easier for thieves to steal your light bar since the screws are exposed so that's why I came up with some screw covers using steel accent angles from Lowes. Also, with the stealth mount setup (light bar behind the grills), I don't like the fact that the grills are slightly in the way of the light beam.

In order to make this work, I had to place the bracket on top of the 14mm nut that's on the crash bar so the bracket can be pushed out far enough for me to screw in the light bar. I went to Home Depot to get more nuts to screw the bracket in and I only screwed down the bottom whole on the bracket so it can tilt enough to pass through the grills.

Here's what I used to block the screws that mounts the light onto the brackets so it makes it harder for someone to unscrew the lights from the brackets. I grind it down with an angle grinder to make it fit properly and used a U-bolt that can only be loosen by opening the hood.

Looks good and great engineering.
Personally i think the double row looks better to fill that spot. But i getcha not wanting to cut the grill.i used the caliraised brackets also and made it stealth.

 

The light is holding up fine. I've found that being able to conveniently tilt the light up or down is very useful. I rarely use it since I haven't been going out into the woods lately but I switch it on every now and then when there are no other cars around and the amount of light that comes out always puts a smile on my face.

 

I agree. I would prefer the double row as well but it wouldn't have worked for me unless I cut the grill. The stealth look is definitely cleaner though.
