While doing some snow wheeling this weekend that dumbass little "heat" shield thing between the gas tank and slip joint on my DCSB driveshaft came loose and cut the boot.

After researching I ordered Spicer P/N 211932X boot kit and some Loctite moly paste. Decided to go that route vs the blue Ford XG-8 PTFE lube or whatever its called because moly seemed better suited for splines. And from what I could find it seemed to have a better operating temp range.

Got the boot kit today, and its got a huge packet of what looks and smells like regular old red-n-tacky grease in it.

So I guess my question is does it even matter? Ill use the moly paste now that I got it, but makes me wonder.

So at one point in time driveshaft like ours use to have a grease zerk to lube the splines and just had a little wiper seal about as tight fitting as a boot on a tie rod or so. I'd use the moly lube or that ford grease since our DS are not serviceable like that. Oh and if you make a new DS you can use spicer aftermarket spline set ups that are greaseable.

Yup, kind of a bummer Tacos dont have that. But oh well, Im at 85k right now so it will be good to 'service' it while Im there.

Just surprised that it came with the kit seeing as how this kit is meant for specific applications that dont have a zerk. And the fact that they give so much. Seems like you could just about fill the whole cavity with that packet

Just because it's meant for an application doesn't mean it also doesn't cross reference or can be used for other applications. Yeah that seems a little excessive.
