Im picking up the truck tomorrow from the dealership. I ordered some of the platinum from Amazon but it wont be here until next week so I went ahead and purchased some of the shudder fix from a local advance auto parts so I can go ahead and get that going tomorrow when I pick it up. Thank you all for your help. Hopefully this will be the long term fix for my baby! Ill report back before too long (a couple weeks) and let you all know how it goes.

    engine swap (stuck valve @260K)
250K on mine and had the shudder problem, have 350K on the trannie now, shifts like a dream.
Shudder fix with 2 partial fluid changes did the trick! Shit is amazing and never believed in any snake oil claims. I should have done partial fluid changes earlier. Tell the dealer to pound sand!
You need to check the level with while reading the temp
You can do it, ez, get a jug pump to pump the fluid in
There is a procedure on here

Eventually I'm sure I will need a valve body rebuild, or just swap in a junk yard trans with lower mileage, a LOT cheaper than having the dealer touch it. They only deal in new part swap outs at high labor prices.

After driving for a week or so it seems it has gone away. No $6500 bill for me! Thank you all for the advice. Now I can keep the ole girl around for a bit longer. On to other servicing!

I am so incredibly glad I found this thread. I tend to lurk here every so often, but I was a couple days away from bringing my truck into the dealership for them to diagnose the same issue. I’m absolutely going to try this.

My truck sat for a while over the holiday season and I noticed when out for a drive today that the truck shakes horribly when sitting still in drive at a stoplight leading me to believe the torque converter is on the edge of giving out. I've started looking around for quotes from other transmission shops in my area.

When was your last engine tune up ?
Last time you changed spark plugs ?
    Throttle body cleaning ?
When did you scan for codes last ?

Stay as far away from the dealership as you can . Your truck is 11 years old . Local garages can fix that thing for cheap.
You joined Tacoma World for help . Stay away from the dealership . We are here to save you cash

Your torque converter has nothing to do with a rough running engine under light loads

What was the verdict on your rough idle?

The rough idle went away on its own. I am planning on having the torque converter replaced and transmission rebuilt mid March.
