***Official 1st gen scangauge/ultra-gauge/torque readings***

Just for the 1st gen guys/gals

Post your method....... scangauge, ultra-gauge, torque app, or other (specify).
Let us know what u watch and what numbers u usually see. Average temps, highest temps, worst temps while towing, etc.

let us know your mods (if they may change things up) like a trans cooler, tow package, non tow package, supercharger, aftermarket exhaust, no cats, aftermarket cats, valve body upgrades, toolboxes, trailers, campers.

If this trip was up a lot of grades, a hot day, a cold day, hauling a load (of), a long trip, etc.

this way we can compare and get an average reading for those of us who use OBD2 and or other gauges.

Ths way we have numbers to compare to instead of just running blind.

hopefully this becomes stick worthy............ may help MANY future questions, especially when someone gets a new OBD2 gauge and wants to know if his/her readings are acceptable

trans temps, watertemps, voltage, fuel trims, cat temps, just your usual.

No telling what a FUTURE user may be looking for.......... Lets not go nuts here, but just use the general numbers you look at personally, unless someone asks specifically for another parameter you dont usually look at, but wouldnt mind sharing?

 

An interesting idea.

Scangauge II. On the Gauge panel I have voltage, auto trans fuild temp, water temp and mpgs since last start. And I toggle to mpgs and miles traveled since last fillup on the trip panel.

 

OK... As example on my second gen.

Typical trans temp via Scangauge is around 160 on a 90 degree day...
Tow package, v6 supercharged, toolbox with tools 150lbs, mesh grille.

Volts around 13.7

Intake around ambient at speed

Water temp typically 185..... Never seen above 200 even up a large grade at 75 mph.

There really isn't a typical trans temp. That temp is all over the place. The only time it is constant is on cruise control,on the highway, total flat-no inclines.

What is more interesting in that regard is when offroad, on dirt, on a road smooth enough and not steep enough road to not require 4lo.

What do to trans fluid temps do in that situation?

Do you have the x-gauge code for HP?

Water temp is dependant a lot on which thromostat is installed. Mine always run between 198* and 202*.

 

Here's what I watch on my Ultra Gauge:
System Voltage, normally around 13.5 - 14.2
Engine Temp, 186 - 194 depending on driving conditions
Intake Temp, around ambient while driving, varies in traffic
Avg MPG, 18-19
% Engine load, just there to help me with driving efficiently.

Resurrecting an old thread

just ordered an ultra gage and interested in mpg temp voltage etc

for those that have them any issues or anything with it? I’ve read there may be limited support as they age out. Thanks

Another for Scangauge.

I have a flickering issue on my Ultragauge since day 1; it flickers maybe once every 20 or 30 minutes...almost like it "blinks".

Been too busy to even mention it anywhere.

 

I don't think mine has done that, but it does appear to cycle through the gauges from time to time. Basically, the gauges disappear for a moment while the backlight remains on, and then reappear almost immediately.

The only reason I swapped from my original Ultragauge to a new MX version is because I wanted to program it to read transmission temp. From what I'm reading here and seeing with my gauge, the transmission temp it displays may not be accurate. I need to find a way to get an actual temperature reading...

 

I’m here for the same reason. Upgraded to the newer MX. I just want tranny temps. 2004 3.4 auto

 

Give it a whirl! It's better than nothing!

So far, mine has never shown temps higher than engine coolant temperature. It has maxed out at 184 in Louisiana summer heat while dragging a utility trailer. This is with a transmission cooler. Once the torque converter locks up, my temps usually drop around 10 or more degrees F.

The only reason I want another measurement is to check the accuracy of the UG, otherwise I'm not complaining. Trans fluid still smells healthy.

 

Very nice. I went ahead and reinstalled my updated UG. Programmed the temp. All is good! I wish my temp ran a little cooler. I’m down in Key west FL, so it’s always hot. 40 minute drive the other day and got up to 212* can you link me what transmission cooler you have? How was the install?
