TW Opinions - what's my truck worth?

OP has a magnuson on his truck...

 

We just recently sold my wife’s 2017 Pro Taco which we had almost $19k in aftermarket receipts. We sold it for only $1,700 over what KBB had its value at. Kind of depressing but knew when I was building it I wasn’t going to get much of anything out of what I put into it. Just have to realize that when investing in your rigs. I’ve got well over 20k in my 2017 Off Road and have thought about selling it a few times but don’t think I will as I don’t want to take another bath so soon. Just hope Toyota doesn’t come out with anything too tempting for at least a few more years.

Honestly around 50k to a private buyer. idk what you guys are seeing but the market is very hot right now I just saw a moderately built Tundra with 100k miles sell for 60k

Pretty much market value. Most add-ons are sunken costs. Strip it down to stock and sell off the accessories. The classified section here is quite active and successful for most.

50k for a used 2017 Taco with mods? thats alot, you can buy a used SR5 for half that and add mods yourself...lol

I know conventional wisdom is that mods don't mean jack when selling a used vehicle, but I don't think that's a fixed rule at all. List your truck wherever you can for what you think it's worth and see what happens. Why part it out before trying to sell it as is? It won't appeal to everyone, but you're only looking for that one person who wants it and is willing to pay a fair price. If you have the time I'd list it at least 10K over book and see what happens. You can always lower the price or part it out later. Just my .02. I've had some luck selling modded vehicles at a decent price in the past.

 

Your are absolutely right. Over here in Eastern Oregon and Idaho dealers are throwing crap spacer lifts and cheap wheels/tires on the vehicles and selling them for $10k+ more than stockers. They are leaving the lots fast, so aftermarket parts do help sell, and people are willing to pay more...at least in my immediate area. I can't believe people pay what they do for these, but what the hell, it's just another monthly payment!

 

The real answer, as always, is that it’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.

 

$10k for a crappy lift and wheels/tires is pretty normal from a dealer. Even before pandemic, that was normal from dealers around my area.

 

Kbb plus maybe 2k for mods ...after market parts hold no real value .

 

Don't care how hot market is. 40 years of experience tells me the only way he gets more than 10% above book is finding that guy... possible but not probable.

 

Dealer mods are different. Usually there is a warranty and definitely the truck has not been thrashed offroad.
And... dealer mods are set up to appeal to most people, not individualize it. You might think red wheels on a black truck look cool but not many others think so.

 

Looking at the poll, it looks like you have two good leads (50K+). Good job casting the bait. Now you have to convince the mods to reveal those two. Good luck, you are a marketing pro!
