Yeah, the reverse ratio sucks for backing up trailers and the like. But I have a solution to that. 2lo.

Will custom driveshafts be in order or are the transmissions the same length overall?

Be inspired once it’s actually in and running.

I actually found a 4/19 truck with 8k miles that I’m getting the trans out of.
It was stuffed in the front. All airbags deployed. Total. I ran the VIN and confirmed that it had the latest iteration of the trans. So, I pulled the trigger.

Dude. I believe it’s all bolt-up. I’ll need to futz with the reverse indicator switch and that’s about it.

Edit: the RC62F is an inch longer. So, yes, rear shaft needs to be shortened accordingly. Front shaft gets longer as well. Read on...

If my swap goes well, someone here will definitely want that trans. How many miles on it ?

It seems people have already read some of my other posts on the topic, but yes I do think the RC62F is a good option to replace the RA60F/61F. The research done here by @BillDaCat8 is sound.

It seems from my research that the 1GR, 6GR, 7GR, and Tacoma 2GR use the same block bolt pattern, while the 7GR and Tacoma 2GR share the same crank bolt pattern as other smaller GR engines. It appears to me that the Tacoma 2GR pressure plate should also be compatible with the 1GR flywheel. It all looks pretty, pretty good.

The RA60F and RC62F output shafts share the same splines and indeed the RC60F (as used in the Hilux) is paired with the same transfer case input shaft that the RA60F/VF2BM setup in the 1GR-equipped Tacomas used.

That is to say, I fully expect the VF2BM transfer case from the RA60F to more or less be a direct bolt-on to the RC62F, and that the RC62F will be more or less a direct bolt-on to the 1GR.

It's a very good swap/setup candidate. Look forward to reading more about how it goes.

do you expect to be able to use the same driveshafts and trans mount off your second gen ? or are you going to have to get western with it..

Shafts won’t change since I’ll be using the original transfer case.

The rear mount is different. I know that. So, I’ll need a 3rd gen one. I’m hoping the tranny arrives with it. If not, I’ll order one.

The crossmember is unclear. Parts diagrams are awful for them. That’ll be a “wait and see”. If it ends up that I do need to chop and weld, I’m ready.

Edit: Shafts do change. RC62F is an inch longer than the RA60F. Keep reading...

I expect the RC62F mount will probably line up with the crossmember without issue. The mount won't come with the transmission and will need to be ordered separately.

From what I’ve seen in the past, I may get the mount as well as the crossmember along with the trans. Depends on how lazy the guys pulling it out of the truck are. Cross fingers for me.

Not sure why I assumed you were getting a new transmission. I was only speaking of how they come from Toyota. Used, there's a good chance you'll get the mount and maybe even the crossmember.

Anyone have their 6mt out of the truck? Or possibly one laying around in the corner of the garage? I need a measurement. Bell housing face to center of shifter socket.

It came with the shifter. I was told that it would not. Oh well. No biggie. I’ve got an extra one now.

Looks pretty clean. Donor truck was only at 8k miles. Lived in PNW area. Shipped to me out of Seattle.
