Can you detail the AFR changes (what tables)? Or a post? I implemented your cruise settings on the tune I'm running (m&w a bit aggressive for me). I'd like to try the AFR changes. Thank You

 

Lambda 0.99 and 0.82 tables are now matching - Air Load Control Tables

 

Based on @Mooseditty17's findings and suggestion (we talked about in the other thread), I used the lambda .99 from 2.0 for both .99 and .82 on those 2 air load control maps---control airflow and expected airflow.

 

Hey man how do you think this one would do at towing in ECT? It's a long way until spring to get the camper back out but just curious.

 

The ECT is untouched--left the same as Mild+Wild. So if that was okay for you, then you're good. But just so you know, as soon as you put it in Cruise Control, It will use the primary shifting, not ECU shifting.

 

@dave82at, have you tested these CC tunes yourself?

 

I've been on the 04A61 Dacruiser V3 (before the AFR changes) for a couple of days now, and it runs great. I probably only have 30 miles or so total, but I have not had any issues. The shifting seems smoother, and the downshift clunk when coasting to a stop is gone.

However, I have not had a chance to use cruise control yet to see how that is affected by the new changes. I will probably load the most recent version in the next couple of days and then I have a 600 mile drive this weekend.

 

That's right. I never ran Mild+Wild but I think I remember Moose saying the Wild/ECT worked good for towing. Cool, can't wait to try it.

 

Yeah, I'm mainly interested in the cruise control itself and see if it's working for standard and adaptive.

 

Thanks for that bit of insight. I have a 3,000 mile trip to Alaska coming up at the start of February, and will be hauling a 7' x 16' cargo trailer. I don't tow often, and never anything that large with my Taco yet. But it's the most cost effective way to move all of our shit up there in the winter. If anyone has suggestions on how to create a more tow-efficient tune, I'm all ears.

 

If no one else jumps in with their experience by the end of this weekend, I'll provide some feedback once I get back from my trip.

 

I would just use ECT. It has much higher shift points--holds gears longer. It also has a higher "tip in" throttle. It should be good for towing.

 

I'm trying it out on 100 miles tomorrow.

I did 135 miles on your "04A61_Mild+Wild-Stock Regular _Cruise Control_V3" tune today, all freeway, up and down hills, in traffic and some fast flat open space hauling ass.

This is my 2nd flash, as I tried Mooseditty's mild+wild tune today around town first. Then I flashed your tune before the long haul and all I can say is that BOTH of these tunes absolutely transformed this truck into what it should have been from the factory. No questions asked, this is how Toyota should be delivering these trucks.

Now that being said, there are a couple tweaks that need to be made in the ECT mode, but being new to VFtuner (tuned a lot of Subaru's using RomRaider and open source tools), I am not quite sure where to look yet, but I am sure there is a solution to what I experienced.

In ECT while using S mode, the truck will not shift on demand from 4th to 5th, constant throttle, flat road, 70+ miles per hour. It seemed to hang in 4th gear for way longer than I wanted it to, and would only shift once I lifted the throttle a bit. There was no need for the truck to be hanging in 4th gear at 3500/4000 RPM for that long, and if I had my way with it, once I manually shifted to 5th from 4th, the truck should obey my command and shift into 5th. Especially when there was no load on the truck that would have required that it stay in 4th gear that long.

I was able to repeat this phenomenon multiple times, so it was not just a one off anomaly.

As I get into the tables and understanding the logic a bit, I am sure I could figure it out, but I just wanted you to know what I am experiencing with this tune.

Now, THAT is the ONLY concern I have with your tune. Beyond that one thing, as I mentioned, this tune COMPLETELY transformed this truck and made it absolutely FANTASTIC to drive. The TC locks up in 5th, and 6th, and it will not downshift unless there is a need/load that requires it. It is absolutely PERFECT in that regard. Slight inclines that would normally have this truck hunting back and forth between 4th and 5th are completely inconsequential now. The truck stays in 5th and with a little extra throttle input, it will power up the incline nicely, comfortably and smoothly. I am totally blown away.

One other thing I would like to see if we can figure out is when shifting from D to S mode, that it not automatically drop down to 4th gear, which it does by default. This "decision" by the ECU or (TCM if there is one....i'm not sure yet) to arbitrarily pick 4th gear, when cruising down the freeway at 70+ MPH and switching from D to S mode should be speed/load/throttle position dependent. Either that, or I completely misunderstand the system, and that change cannot be implemented? Not sure here either.

By ANY measure, flashing one of these tunes, either from @dave82at or @Mooseditty17 (haven't tried one of your tunes yet @PapaRee ) will no doubt be the single best mod ANYONE can do to their 3rd gen.... It is without question, that big of a deal.

 

@Team Scream Thanks for the feedback. Most of the work was done by @Mooseditty17 and @PapaRee - I just copied their tunes over to the different ECUs. I mostly drive in normal drive mode not using ECT unless I pull a heavy trailer. Will take a look at the tune for your ECU and send you another version to try out.

Do you have a way to see what your accelerator position was? If so, lower the upshift values on the 4-5 table closest to that position and speed. Graphing it out on Excel really helps. You can understand the shift / accelerator position far easier when graphed out. A lot of the axis values really make it hard to visualize otherwise. S mode will NOT override ECT pwr. Not until Mat releases the map switching tunes.

Lower the values on the 4-5 ECT upshift map nearest the accelerator position you felt it held too long. Side note: until Mat releases map switching, there isn't a way to have SMode override ECT power. It's going to shift according to what those maps say, unless your within the shift points established.
