This sounds like a good deal to me. High milage but for the age, it's like 27k per year so that sounds to me like mostly highway miles which are much easier on a vehicle than stop and go locally. Although, pervious owner could have been a contractor or sales guy and then I'd be more concerned about the milage. Those guys just drive all day. Should be easy to tell, the interior will be trashed. Look into the history and ask questions. Definitely check underneath for rust and open the hood and check the oil and fluids. It's easy and quick to check and shows if the current owner maintained it. Most won't have records.

 

I'm planning on getting the CRC done in the Spring when temps go up some.

I'd walk before buying a Colorado or any GM actually..my 2006 Colorado puked the head at 70K and they screwed me out of thousands for a "free" repair despite being in the original powertrain warranty plus the "secret" one on that engine. The first dealer certified it for the replacement and 3 weeks later refused to do the job saying "I don't care what we told you it's fine".

Depending on how much she drives, I think someone saw a 1st gen for $6500 in MA

Thanks, I'm not a big fan of American cars either. We decided we're going to try and get something older for the next year or two while she figures out work and everything, she;s a full time student right now which makes financing hard. A 1st gen Taco? We were also looking at some older 4Runners. She doesn't drive much, but I don't want her getting stranded anywhere because we bought someone's old beater haha

Also, what does everyone think of the Rav 4? Is it like a smaller 4 Runner or is it significantly different?

Dude same. The last 5 weeks I had Friday off, whether it was from holidays or just unused vacation days. My whole schedule is thrown off

 

I was kind of in a similar situation. I’m an engineering student at housatonic cc and even though my tuition is minimal I still couldn’t fathom a car note.

Just be cautious looking at 1st gens here. I realized when I was looking for mine most people want top dollar for an auto rwd 4 cyl.
They are out there though. Few and far, but I found my 02 trd MT w/ 300k, seller was asking 4K I walked with it at 3000$.
Truck was in pretty decent shape. I should have brought a mini hammer to tap on the frame though. I’ve got several marble sized holes now that I’m 6 months into owning and have tested with hammer.
Luckily I’m a mechanic and was able to do my own work because all the maintenance and such was due. I put about 1000$ into to get it where it is and still have more to do.
So in the end I wonder if I’ll have basically given myself a car note in the end with the amount I have to put into the truck, but I LOVE my first gen, so at this point, oh well.

Never owned a 4Runner, but the Rav4 is pretty nice. My wife had a 2005 after her 96 Tacoma buyback, had it from 2008 to 2019. Just got her a 14 to replace it, nothing wrong with the 05.

 

Greetings CT folks, been a semi-lurker for a bit. Thought I'd jump in with folks in my area...I've had a few Toyotas (I'm an older dude) '73 Land Cruiser, '88 Taco, '08 Taco, and now a fresh 2021.
