    Gotcha. That makes sense lol.
We've just got a small tank because the wife insists on having fish.
Of course, now I'm the one that's fixing an algae problem and taking care of them...
Had a few different fish over the past couple years..
First round died out because they got overrun with snails. (Came in on live plants)
Second round died out because we ended up buying sick fish from Petsmart.
These guys are the third round. Currently there's a bunch of algae in the tank because of high nitrate levels, I think?
Trying to figure that out but of course, I have no idea what I'm doing.
Regardless, they're cheap fish. If they all die, we can just throw the tank out start over again.

I purposely bought snails but the right ones aren’t cheap, they clean your tank better than sucker fish, plecos

I’m on about my 3rd round with this tank. I’ve always done cichlids. This time I’m concentrating on creatures that can clean and live with the fish. Also the first time I’ve done live plants and I honestly love them.

Yeah, we tried out live plants for the first time. Ended up having a ton of snails as a result. Couldn't get rid of them.

Went back to fake plants and now we've got a ton of algae. So I guess we kinda, unintentionally have live plants again?

You’re going to grow algae and it has to be cleaned but if you think it’s too much you might be leaving your light on too long

I’ve really went over the top spending on this thing this time trying to do things right. I’ve probably got $300 in plants so hopefully no invasive snails

I can’t wait till everything I’ve ordered comes in so I can post up. I’m going to be really proud of it.

Yeah, it's definitely too much. Thought it was the lights before but it's on a timer and I've even stopped turning the light on.
Pretty sure it's shit in the substrate jacking the nitrate levels up. Bit of neglect on our part probably. :anonymous:
    :fingerscrossed: Hopefully not.
Def keep an eye out for pics. Nice aquariums are always cool.

Is your aquarium taking in sunlight through breaks in the blinds or anything like that? That will grow algae with the lights off. I have blackout curtains everywhere around my tank.

Nah, it's in the middle of the kitchen. Closest thing to extra light would be if my wife leaves the kitchen light on.. Thought about getting "wallpaper" for the aquarium to make sure no extra light is getting in.

Did you notice the live plants cutting down algae? I hope so, that would be great news. Between shrimp, plants, snails and plecos I’ll be golden

Don't think I noticed much algae when we had the live plants. We had hornwort and water lettuce.

I noticed mine getting a little cloudy for no reason. Turns out one of my boys unplugged my entire filtration while removing the Christmas tree. It’s a good thing someone pays attention around here.
