1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

It only seems to squeak when I’m turning into corners with a deep drop or going up the driveway at an angle fast. Not when I’m driving straight over potholes and stuff. I guess it could be my upper control arm bushings.

I checked all the front end hardware after I found my front diff arms were loose a few months back.

 

Tie rods?

 

Maybe. 137K on the odometer and the tie rods don’t have any play and their boots aren’t torn. Aligns fine. I’ll tear the whole front end apart when the flatbed is done and figure it out.

 

If you didn't clock the uca bushing when you lifted it theyre torn... The method some display where they use a bottle jack to make the uca meet the ubj stud is terrible... It pretty much guarantees bushing failure

You're supposed to loosen the uca bolt so you're not twisting the uca bushings than tighten the bolt at ride height so the bushing is neutral at ride height and only twisted under compression or droop

I monkey see monkey do'ed what I saw on the "what did you do" thread and quickly fucked my uca bushings

Since @Kwikvette and @xtremewlr were talking about bumpers, I figured I'd post some progress of mine...

Welding is done and 95% of the grinding...






Got it back on the rig for another test fit. Still have to weld on the swing outs and cut the bumper cover for the side fillers, then it comes back off for paint...

Rear bumper with swing out really changes the entire look tenfold. Got stopped a few times by randoms today...kind of forgot about that cause it'd happen with the Tacoma as well.

 

Funny thing is, I don't really care about looks. Only real reason I got it was so that I could get a full sized spare. I can't fit one in the stock location currently (due to KDSS) and don't have room in the back due to my 2 130lb dogs. Did some snow wheeling a few weeks ago and ripped up my rear cover pretty decent, so getting a metal rear bumper with swingout seemed to be in the cards.

Once the bumper is installed, the OME kit is next in line along with new rear control arm and panhard bushings.
