The ultimate headlight upgrade H4 (not LED or HID)

I ordered the harness and Super Brights today, so I'm anxious to see how they perform. My factory fogs are pretty good (2012-2015 use TRD fogs), although I'm wanting to switch them out for SS3's also, probably in selective yellow. I currently use the white fogs now with my low beams as supplementary light, but I doubt I would need that once I do this upgrade. I also have new OEM headlight housings. Cost me $500 but it's worth it.

 

As I'm sure it's been mentioned previously somewhere in this massive thread, but if you're ordering bulbs, get a second set to have on hand if a bulb goes out.....

 

I received shipping notice from Headlight Services. Ordered on 12/31 so they're getting these out there.

 

Like, @Crow Horse, I run Osram Super Bright 100/90 bulbs and have yet to be flashed with stock alignment.

I think you'll be happy with the harness and Osram Super Brights. I'm still running the Ultimate Foglight Upgrade H11 (not LED or HID), but I have a set of SS3 Pro Yellow Fogs with clear/white SAE/DOT fog lenses waiting for warmer temps and free time to install.

 

I have had some issues in areas with a lot of up and down hills with oncoming traffic. The crest will make your lights hit their face. If you do a lot of that you might not want to go with the high power bulbs. The harness will give you a decent boost though.

 

So what are the best bulbs to get right now with the harness, I’m on my last set OSRAM RALLY BULBS.

No problem. The Osram 100/90w isa good bulb. The highbeam is phenomenal. While I was running them I never felt the need to use my Cibie Super Oscars for extra light on high beam. The lowbeam is definitely brighter than a standard 60w lowbeam throughout the beam, but I honestly prefer the lowbeam from a philips xtremevision +130/+150 to the osrams 100w low beam.

You get 90% of the peak intensity of the osram 100/90w h4 from a philips xtremevision +150, with much less power draw (70ish watts) which means less heat on the reflector (not a huge concern, but still something to keep in mind). I prefer a more dimly lit foreground than the 100/90s provide for general driving. The extra reach is great from high rated +Focus bulbs, but I prefer more light down the road. Admittedly these are great in well lit urban/suburban areas.

And again, I love the 90w highbeam. Its seriously a wall of light. I take it that its the slightly smaller filament allowing it to be more intense, but I'm pulling that out of my ass.

Edit: you'll want to note that my opinion is also based on using them in my 3rd gen 4runner, not a 2nd gen tacoma. So while both vehicles have large multi-aurface reflector headlamps, the reflector of the newer 2nd gen toyota is likely better designed and better performing (I would ASSume). I havent done the harness upgrade to my parents 2010 tacoma, they're currently running xtremevision +130's.

The beauty of this upgrade is that on a non-lifted truck with properly aimed headlights, you should not get flashed. If however, you have a lifted truck and / or improperly aimed headlights, all bets are off.

You need a ground or negative switched relay harness for older toyotas. Newer toyotas have a more typical positive side switched circuit. I bought mine from headlight services, same as what is linked in the first post. Email the guy, let him know its for an older 4runner and he can help you out. He added an additional relay circuit I use to trigger my auxiliary highbeams, which was nice.
