I love the Hydro option and may order soon. I've been wondering about your printer setup. Have you ever posted anything about it? This is a long thread to try and look back through, so figured I'd ask. Merry Christmas!

Thank you - glad you like it!

Just shipped this morning - you should have tracking in your email! Thank you! Probably will take a bit longer due to holidays and USPS delays but it is on it's way!

Hey - it's a Raise3D Pro2. 13x13x13 build volume - it's pretty huge. When tuned properly I can make 3 inserts at a time, but it is VERY out of tune right now so I can only do one. Hoping to fix it in the next couple of days, it hasn't been right in months and I can only use the front 4" of the bed or so.

Nice! I was wondering if about the enclosure since you're printing in ABS. Did that come with the printer, as an add on option, or did you DIY it? I had a UM3+ at my old job and always built up cardboard around it when I had to run ABS. Anyway, nice setup. Thanks for the info.

It came with the printer. I usually wrap in a blanket too when printing, the printer uses much less electricity when insulated since it draws about 600 watts just trying to keep the bed warm!

Yes!! Keeping the environment warm was always my biggest challenge with ABS.... Super finicky.

Curious how many of these things you have sold?

As a ME myself I look at this as a great product that serves a big need. Have you ever considered injection molding it? The mold would be simple and cheap and the top surface finish could be much nicer. Let me know if you are interested in this.

I would definitely be a customer and would be willing to invest in the mold with you. A large group by would definitely help pay for the tool.

The good news for everyone else is the price would drop dramatically

PM me if you are interested.

    Hey,
I do quite a bit of injection molding parts for work. It just doesn't make sense at my scale after factoring in that I have 4 different shapes that are equally popular, mold costs, MOQ, shipping, and storage once it gets here. I'm pretty happy with my process and haven't had any complaints on either the surface finish or the price - but I appreciate the suggestions. Thanks!

@rns0504 what is the largest diameter you're making? I think i saw an earlier post where you mentioned 3.5" as the largest feasible, is that still the case? my need is for 2 Yetis, one is roughly 3.25" and the other 3.75". if 3.5" is the largest then it seems like i can live with that. thx!

The funny thing is, CAD, model printing and depositing were all designed to eliminate injection molding for prototyping and short run production. The way that @rns0504 is going about it is the least expensive way to produce it. One file for each design and the push of a button, job done!

    Hey,
Nothing bigger than 3.6" or so is really feasible, as the opening is barely 4" wide at the top and tapers inward. The hole I use for Yeti cups is about 3.3" and the Hydroflask is 3.6" so if you say 3.5" would work I would check out the "Hydroflask Left" or "Hydroflask Right" models on the first page - thanks!

Thanks - I agree! I love the ability to make quick changes / custom changes on the fly. One of my parts at work - we use about 25,000 a year and injection molding brought the price down to 26 cents / piece from $1.40/piece when we were machining the plastic. But these inserts are a small volume and such a variety of sizes, I just can't make the math make sense, not even counting finding somewhere to store thousands of parts.

Thanks man and thanks for the chat this morning - Shipped!

Thank you! I'm sure itll do exactly what you expect!

Can you shoot me a link to your mug, or PM me a rough sketch of size and handle? I'll see what I can come up with - thanks!

Yes - I have the scratch and dent available in all sizes. Thank you!
