Help! One wheel not spinning in 4 wheel drive!

Ok, not driveline bind then.

 

From what I can make out my money is still on different gear ratios front/back, need confirmation on what they are but sounds like you'll have to test them to determine.

 

100% OP still needs to confirm ratios match. Not convinced on driveline bind though. "slushy" isnt exactly a high friction scenario haha

Could be as simple as real shitty conditions. Sometimes driving over slush or snow is just enough to compact it and turn it into pure ice. Makes turning difficult regardless of 4x4 operation.

OP, did you ever actually see the wheel bind, or are you basing that on the fact the turning was difficult and non responsive in this scenario?

Just now tried, no luck, and no video, but got the old diff taken apart right now

 

Counted the gears, I got 41 on the ring, and 11 on the pinion which I believe is 3.73. So my guess is that diff might be a reg can diff or a manual

 

I hope you didn't do all that just to determine the gear ratio. You could put in in 4wd, transmission in neutral, jack up one whole side of the truck only, spin the front tire twice, and count the revolutions of the driveshaft. Whatever you count is your gear ratio. Then spin the rear tire twice and count the rear drive shaft revolutions. Question answered in 5 minutes.

 

In 2wd with ADD the ring gear, carrier, pinion, and front driveshaft are not going to be spinning. The driver side CV will be spinning the differential (side and spider gears) inside the carrier and the passenger side wheel will be spinning everything up to the ADD.

 

3.73 is stock ratio for 6cyl manual or automatic trucks, regardless of trim level. Regular cabs have 4.10 or 3.58 depending on drivetrain. So anything else abnormal in the diff to cause binding? Did you look at the clutch hub in the ADD?

 

If this thread is any indication, I would expect he took it apart to see what was causing it to bind up.

 

Yes, but if mismatched gear ratios were a theory, it didn't need to be disassembled at all to determine that. Once that was determined to not be the issue then disassembly may make sense.

Honestly, you could trouble shoot this whole thing with fairly high certainty of locating any problem with just jack stands and a jack. But the hard way sounds fun too.

 

I took apart my old diff that was sitting on my deck, took like 5 minutes. So I'm assuming I have Mis matched gear ratios.

 

Pretty sure the old diff sitting on the deck isn't causing your binding. What's the ratio of the one in the truck? No need to assume, be sure.

 

You could also get the entire truck off the ground and see if it all spins in 4hi. Pay a tire shop $20 to put it in the air.

 

Well I know it's most likely the wrong ratio after finding out what's in the old one that used to match the rear

 

Too many posts to read, but you could try putting it in 4HI and going in reverse to see what happens.

Not much more to tell, I just remember unlocking the old hubs that way. I try lots of shit before I start taking things apart.
