Yea, more compact. They also are improved in performance, so for the slight price difference, seems worth it.

This is why I grabbed some 3.0’s this year. They are small, and also HO, so they should offer more in a small package. I might go out after supper and see how they work in the nut buster

With stub nose since there less space in the nose and the internals are stuff tight in there. Does this decrease durability?

I wouldn’t be concerned, they’ve been making all their drills and impacts more compact. I don’t think they’d sacrifice any quality. It’s like anything else, over time they figure out how to get more power while reducing still reducing size.

Question if anyone knows, is the m18 surge impact driver still the original? They haven’t released a gen2 of that?

IMO the regular impact driver is better than the surge. Although the surge is a little quieter the sound is prolonged over a longer period vs. the regular with more power zaps the fastener in way faster and the loudest part comes at the very end for a real short period.

Yea, I have both, I like the surge for somethings, but I broke it, didn’t know if they had a new generation out yet with a little more power.

This thread got me curious on which battery pack I have. The only number I could find was 48-11-1815.

    Looks like this one.

I’m not sure. I’d guess they aren’t real popular anymore with higher ah batteries of similar size available.

Makita's 1.5 AH batteries (which I don't think you can buy anymore) are keyed so they can't be used in the higher powered tools. I have one that I can only use in a flashlight, one drill, and a small impact driver. Are Milwaukee's the same? If so, I wouldn't buy one to save compatibility headaches later.

I can see why they're not popular anymore. My light starts to dim within 1/2 hour. But the weight of them was nice.

Mine came in a kit with drill, impact, batteries, charger. The batteries don't last long if your constantly using them. I now looking for a larger ah rated battery pack for backup. More for constant use.

pretty certain there is no gen 2

I absolutely love that drill, not the fastest but quiet and overall less violent. Takes some getting used to because if feels so different, but awesome drill. I prefer the surge unless driving lots of screws then I’d grab the regular impact

with that said the m12 surge has basically become my favorite drill I’ve ever owned. It never leaves my “essentials” tool bag
