I have those and they've been great so far for ~1K miles. Still getting 16-17 on average.

    Thought I’d share my experience.

I previously had a trd sport that I had 4wheelparts install a bilstein 5100 lift with 17” fuel -6 offset 4.5 spacing and Toyo open country 285/70/17 tires

It drove horrible!! Crazy stiff, when the suspension rebounded it made a horrible loud noise at the top of the travel, and the tires rubbed like crazy. I absolutely regretted the decision. I ended up trading it in for a wrangler. Also ended up regretting that rattle box POS too.

Fast forward a few years later and I decided to buy another taco. This time a trd off road. My plan was not to touch it.. however, I got the itch after looking at forums

My plan was to drop a shit ton on a suspension and to go 275/70/17 to eliminate any issues and to try and obtain the absolute best possible ride quality.

After researching like crazy and driving myself mad, I realized I was just pissing away money on a super expensive lift based on what i was going to use it for. Every 4x4 online shop kept pointing me back to the 5100’s despite my back story I shared with them. They also said not to use aftermarket springs with the 5100 and to not do the add a leaf, if I wanted the best ride quality.

During my research, I also found out that 4wheel parts used the previous generation bilstein 5100’s on my last taco.

So, based on my finding and shock surplus recommendation, I ended up purchasing the 3rd gen 5100’s (front and back) for 390.00 along with 1 inch pro comp blocks for the rears and crossing my fingers.

I had Midas install all 4 shocks for 379.00 at the highest 2” clip setting for the front bilsteins.

    discount tire ordered me some
Method nv 305’s with 0 offset and 4.5 backspacing and was also nice enough to order 2 sets of tires for me; 285/70/17 nitto terra’s SL and Falkon wild peaks 275/70/17 c load should the nittos rub.

I can happily report that not only has the drive quality improved drastically over the stock suspension, I have also not had 1 single rub despite my best efforts to try and make them rub.

    Very happy with the results!

Yes, they installed shocks & blocks for 379.00

They are running a 69.00 alignment special right now too. I purchased that as well.

Call around and ahead of time though. Another Midas shop quoted me slightly higher.

Wow, that's some cheap labor, do you feel the tech was skilled / comfortable enough to do the install? Nice work, saved some dough and truck looks great!

During the “research” phase, I pretty much learned how to install these myself. It’s not hard at all. Had I purchased coilovers, I would have done it myself. Because I used my oem coils I needed someone with a coil spring compressor.

Midas is known for strut replacement and the bilstein 5100’s are nothing out of the ordinary.

yes, the Nitto Terra Grapplers are 285/70/17 standard load. They drive great and are super quiet. They do not have the most aggressive side wall.

Yep, have lifted a few trucks of mine with a buddy in the driveway as well, as you alluded to the coils if reusing and installing are the sketchiest part, especially if you go the old school route with a hand tool. Blocks and alignment though are not a usual "strut replacement" or what I would expect Midas to be experts in, not that they cant do it or a good job, just curious how you feel they did is all.

I can assure you they did a much better job than 4wheel parts and I saved money.

I’m not sure what it’s like in other areas but in my area there are a ton of 4x4 shops and the lack of customer service and clarity paired with the over priced labor is a beat down!

Nice. Ya I've heard horror stories about 4wheel parts. In my area, its the opposite, few lift 4x4 shops, so hard to find experienced installers, etc.

Oh and speaking of saving money. The katzkin leather sold on Tacoma world are legit! Install was a little tuff but worth it

I was looking at nitto terras, is that the one in the pic? Looks so good. I was going to go with a 285/75r16 though. Should be ok?

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
Wheels must make a big difference. I have the stock TRD OR wheels and 285/75R16s that do not rub the pinch weld nor the cab mount. They do, however, rub the UCA at 80% lock.
