    Hey everyone,

First post here ... I've been browsing Tacomas lately and I'm just about at the point where I'd like to bite the bullet and get my first.

Every new car I've purchased in the past has just been me settling for whatever happened to be in stock that day. How does one go about buying the exact model they want?

I haven't bothered talking to the local dealership yet, as I rightfully trust car salesmen exactly as far as I can throw their product.

Can you just order the model & spec you want? If so, how do you do it while getting a reasonable price (without signaling to the sales staff that they've got you hook line & sinker)?

    My wants:
    - army green
    - 4wd
    - manual
    - 6' bed
    - one of the cool 360-degree video systems (they seem to go by two different names depending on whether it's a TRD?)
    - rear sonar
    - misc other bells, whistles

This site's a fantastic resource, I'd really appreciate input on any highlights of stuff listed in the Toyota build UI that are best gotten from Toyota as opposed to later/after market.

Quick takes toyota stock stuff that's inferior to aftermarket or just generally extremely overpriced would be appreciated, too.

After browsing a few posts, I see it's helpful to know what the intended use is when asking for advice... This'll be a daily driver and hopefully get its own four wheel camper someday. It won't primarily be offroading, but that's increasingly the goal.

Any input would be greatly appreciated ;)

TRD OR access cab I think comes in Green and a 6 speed option.

But a double cab long bed with a 6 speed aint happening.

Toyota has a seriously constrained color list for TRD Pro in their online builder.

    Welcome.
You can't actually order a specifically equipped Tacoma. You can see what the dealer or dealers have on allocation and see what best fits your needs. Or is the closest to your ideally equipped Taco.

Army Green was a Pro color for 2020. It is now available in the other TRD lines for 2021.

Aw, maaan, you guys are the shit - that's apparently the thread I was looking for but hadn't found. I'd still absolutely love to hear feedback on the rest of my questions though. Gotta admit, I'm pretty stoked to be in a position to go after a dream truck :)

    Welcome to TW

I am going through that process now. Read through those links and the price thread as the next step. The order process is kind of different but yes if you can build it on the website and find a dealer that can tweak an order they have, you should get something close. Start by picking out the base package (SR, off road, sport), you cannot mix and match every feature. I placed my order in Oct and it was built yesterday so patience is required. I also had a good experience with the Costco price program, simply got a quote back from the participating dealer for $600 under invoice on the package I specified.

Sales associates are trained to sell whats on the lot. A good sales mgr. will be more helpful with ordering what you want but be prepared to wait for delivery. Call the dealer of choice and ask for sales appointment with mgr. at off peak hours.
Get quotes from multiple sales managers at different dealerships.

You can talk to the dealership and provide them with the exact specifics you want and possibly put $500/$1000 down so that when they get the exact truck you want they will hold it for you. Otherwise, it's first come first serve. At least that's how my dealer would do it. As for the specifics you want with the 6ft manual that may be a unicorn. You can also reach out to the fleet department at your dealer and see what they may be able to do for you.

Good luck and welcome to the forum.

There seems to be exactly one match on Toyota's "search inventory" feature.

Only chance will be a TRD sport access cab if you have to have all those things

Welcome! Unless it’s new for 2021 I don’t believe long beds can come manual in any trim levels

I went to Toyota for parts and of course they have to pester me about trading in.
I told them same demands but in cav blue and they left me alone after that since they knew there was no chance of them getting one
