Big tires, big lift, Lots of stuff's.
Not if he is towin 8,000 pounds it wont. The tundra cant compare to Ford and Chevy in that category. Mind you I stated before my next truck is a tundra but I will not be towing with it. I have had 2 fords both over 150k and neither had any problems. They are very reliable but like any car you have to take care of them and do the proper care on them.

Yeah, and I have an 01 Tacoma w/ a NEW frame because the old one rusted out in multiple spots. All maufacturers have issues. I had a '99 Explorer and yes, they did suck!, but my whole family drives Ford's and have had nothing but good luck.

Get the new f150 3.5 liter v6 ecoboost...that thing is a monster and it says its tow rated for 11k and it might get better fuel economy than our tacomas..

oh trust me i take care of all my rides, and my parents rides. ya the tundra probably wont tow as much as the ford or chevy, but to me longevity is key... tundra still gets the vote!

I'd have to say my buddys f250 gots 300,000 miles on it and it pulls and runs like a new truck.. my tacoma has given me more problems than his f250..my next truck will be a ford or chevy..

This is absolutely what you should be considering when purchasing a 3/4 ton truck. This is what businesses and individuals who actually USE their trucks for the hard work that they were designed for consider when choosing a truck. And for 33+ years they have been overwhelmingly choosing the F-Series.

I missed the part where he said that it weighs 8k. All I was getting at, was that, if you are going to buy a truck that can handle 12.5k, then why not spend a little more money and get one with a engine that will pull all 12.5k without looking back. By no means was I saying that you can safely tow alot of weight with a stock half ton truck.

I'd look at a diesel if I was buying a truck for towing duty. I'd rather have something thats overbuilt for my purpose than be pushing the limits of my truck.

I'd opt for a used GMC diesel. My buddy has an 08 and it is an absolute BEAST, I am very impressed to say the least.

Sounds good except: My dad just sold his 1976 Ford truck which was a welding rig (1 ton of shit in a 3/4 ton truck), had just shy of 1 million miles. It was maintained and worked on...........just not daily.

    too damn many
i voted tundra because i love mine but if you are going to be towing a trailer of that size frequently id say go with a f250 as mentioned in another reply they are simply a beast. GM makes a good gas engine but my tundra will out perform them on just about anything that doesnt involve mudding lol (2WD sucks) out tow, out run, and look better lol. the tundra works well as a work truck but the only problem is that if want a puller it needs to be a heavy duty and unforcunatly the soonest we would see toyota enter that category will be 2014 lol and that still isnt for sure. my tundra does great for me but if i ever needed to realllllllly tow stuff id want a f250 or a dodge 2500 sorry gm but the alison duramax combo doesnt do anything for me cummins is probably the best deisel but ford is better quality than dodge

I would think that a 3.5 liter wouldn't tow very good. I'm sure its fast though. Personally I would go chevy.

I love Fords and if you look at my gallery you can see I have had some badass Ford 3/4 trucks and also a 3/4 ton GMC. I will say it again I love the superduties but until Ford can get its shit together with their diesel motors i would stick with the Duramax/Allison combo.
The Cummins is awesome but their transmission sucks so if I could only own 1 truck for the rest of my life it would be the Duramax/Allison combo.

i personally would probably take the f250 first, but 2500 close behind second. i dont think i would ever get a tundra honestly. but i think i could trust an f250 and a chevy way more because of how long they have been around and the fact it is diesel, i just have a major sore tooth for diesels. id even look into the new ram 2500's. cummings makes an amazing diesel also*

In my opinion, the Chevy wouldn't even be in the lineup. Obviously, to each their own, but to me, General Motors' ergonomics are FUGLY. Have been for a long time. I realize this has nothing to do with towing, payload, mpg etc. but I can't get past it. The following pic is of an '02, but it's a good representation of GM's thinking.

I would buy a Cummins, But from those three I'd go with the Ford.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
    .

I had a 2007 Tundra with a 5.7 and that truck had some power. On another forum TundraSolutions.com they have a lot of info on Tundras and towing.

IMO .. diesels are best for towing, but that 5.7 is the best dependable gas burner out there for towing.
