Yeah Alabama Hills is incredible. That said, if you go... (yes ima get on my pedestal for a min, just one min I swear though! Also, this is a general public statement not directed at anyone in particular.)

DO NOT BRING ANY GLASS. PERIOD.

Its literally rocks. That's it. The campsite I have pictured literally has almost as much broken glass on the ground as there is sand. Its despicable. So. Much. Broken. Glass. I wouldn't take a single step barefoot. Hell I wouldn't even bring a dog. That's how bad some of the spots are.

There's plenty of great beer in cans (arguably, more than bottles these days). Transfer your wine or hard alcohol to a Nalgene or platypus. There are ways around bringing glass that are easy.

Thanks. And sorry for the rant. ;-)

This should be the norm anywhere you go and camp. Makes me mad when a beautiful campsite is ruined, especially this way

Yes, we stayed at the red coconut in Ft Myers, then down to Boyd's in Key West. Both are nice, pricier than what I usually look for, but I reached a "use it or loose it" with my vacation time so we were well overdue for a trip

Right!? Cans, plastic, and other garbage are an eyesore but can be easily removed most of the time. Broken glass cannot. Even if you clean up large chunks of glass, micro shards can tear animal and human feet to shreds.

Makes me sad when some off-roading and overlanding vendors advertise their wears with people out camping and drinking from glass bottles. Like, wtf guys? YOU are the freakin role models here. People don't think for themselves, so its up to you to set the example.

We even bring a couple extra stainless steel pint glasses to loan out for people who forgot or weren't thinking when they packed. That said, no matter how I pitch it. I'm always the "glass Nazi". Even if I'm just like "Hey I got this stainless steel glass you can pour your beer into. That way you don't gotta worry about accidently breaking your bottle and losing your beer! They call that alcohol abuse, you know. ;-)" I think people just don't like being told what to do, or being called out on their mental lapses. Some people get straight up hostile over it. Those are the worst. Get out of my fucking forest. *best Clint Eastwood stare*

I usually try and tag stuff that is representative with #noglassoutside

    I know. It's my soapbox.

i love the setup and love the camping spot. Completely agree with the No glass. I wish people would stop geo-tagging it on IG and FB as well :(

Alabama Hills is a big place. It’s crowded, but if you go on a weekday, while it’s off-season like this, or if you wander out beyond the closest spots on the right after pulling in you’ll likely find something. There are some trails out there with enough of a “gatekeeper” ditch entrance or rocks to keep out the car and RV crowd that lead to more secluded areas. Spend a couple hours exploring and then you’ll have your own cache of secret spots :)

Beautiful spot...whats up with the ghillie suit for the truck? Stealthing it? Big fan of stealth camping from my bike/moto trips but a lot harder to pull off with truck

Where is that along the Rio? Looks like south/mid NM, but I'd don't recognize the mountains.

oh man....soooo many great pics and ideas!! Very jealous of all of you who got to do cold weather/snow camping!! That is my most fav time to camp.

I am getting my new SR5 either tomorrow or Weds, so I will be asking TONS of questions here in the next few months!

It is "Phase 1" of our retirement plan to travel, camp, ride MTB and do photography!!! As much as I would like to do the tent camping thing (on ground) the wife is more into the teardrop trailer thing....and I actually think those are pretty cool, so at least when we are together, we will be going that route.

would love to hear suggestions for great places to go in NE, Michigan, Minnesota, Canada, Upstate NY...we are not really "beaches and heat" types...
