thanks for the straight forward answer! i've been drooling over the miller multimatic 220 but seeing as how im at most a hobbyist welder i dont think i really need that much machine for my home garage, at least right now.

I don’t have experience with the Vulcan tig but if it’s on par with the Vulcan mig, you’ll be happy with it. I’m extremely happy with mine.

Neat, didn't know that stainless flux-core existed.

    Wise choice.
I would take a red or blue machine any day over these new discount brands.

Color doesn't make you a better welder, and for someone just starting out or not trying to be go pro it can make sense to go discount.

Back when I started, that was the only choice.

I am completely amazed what a person can get now that is very close to the industrial quality of my Miller units.

You can now but 2, 240 volt Vulcans for what I paid for one of my units. My 30a spool gun cost more than 5 Vulcan spool guns.

You guys now have it very good. Forums, You Tube, email and texting.

We had show up at fab shop at quitting time with a 6 pack just get the old timers to give us 10 minutes of welding directions.

Burned on some DIY beadlocks for my crawler with the Hobart 210MVP. I have some seat time on the grinder and 128 grade 8 bolts ahead of me. Lets hope the all hold air

    For sure, i understand this.
I would still take a USED blue or red machine over a new discount brand any day.

I’m going to use it to slice up an onion. Really test it’s precision.

Have 10 Rigid threaders to change oil on and these standard flathead 3/4” drain plugs are beyond stupid to remove.
Of the zillion tools we have, not one for the job, so i made one.

Shit bolted onto other shit, and junk.
Is there a gross lack of trust over the newer inverter 211 Millermatics vs. the 211 transformer types? I am terrified of getting one and it burning up. It seems you only read about the bad news. I know those out enjoying their machines aren't posting about how great they are working.

Not a name brand, but the multi-process welder I just got is an inverter based one. It'll be a while before I have any real input on it.

I have the Multimatic 220, but the MIG function and parts are identical to the Millermatic 211. Have only put roughly 12lbs of wire through it, but hasn't skipped a beat yet.

How mobile do you need it to be? If it's just a shop rig, a transformer model would fit the bill. The inverter models are MUCH lighter and work well if you need them to be portable.

I feel like you can't really go wrong with either model, but then I'm not sure if you could find a new transformer model so you'd be stuck with used. Only reason I mention this is the used model wouldn't come with a warranty.

I have no real dog in this hunt. Both my welders are transformer machines.

I am amazed every year when I pull the covers and blow the dust out, how much dirt is present. I can only wonder how tolorent the inverter machines with their much more complex electronic arrays.

I've only heard of 2 inverter machine failures on this thread and zero transformer machines failures.

My machines are use slot, so they will develop huge dust accumulations. The average home owner most likely will not use theirs as much.

    TLDR:

    Fan of transformer machines.

Not a fan of multi process inverter machines.

Feel single purpose MIG inverter machines will outlast the owners.
