Jesus, my 2006 automatically turns off the headlights when I kill the ignition. Is this really a debate here?

I'll take reliability everyday over the latest and greatest. I assume that's the reason most people are in Tacomas. It's certainly not because they're cutting edge.

IMHO, that is actually a feature. It will prevent folks from driving at night with just the DRLs on.

I just hate the breaking nose dive on the stock off-road suspension. Other than that no complaints.

What!?!? No complaints about the dash not being plush Corinthian leather or the lack of teakwood trimming in the interior? What about the lack of vibrating seats or not having concert hall sound system. Shocking.

    :)

In my humble opinion ... it’s a freaking pick up truck. It is not a soccer mom caravan. It’s a truck. This is my fourth Toyota pick up truck, so I pretty much have had all the gens. This one by far and away for comfort etc. blows my previous trucks away. All my trucks were extremely high mileage reliable vehicles, which is what keeps me coming back to Toyota.

    Just saying ...

The only thing that annoys me about mine is I am 6ft tall and it seems like there is a huge blind spot because of the short windshield and the rearview mirror on the passenger side.

Leer shell....still waiting for my lift parts to come in!
I love my new Tacoma. But if I could make some changes...
I upgraded from a 1995 Toyota DX extra cab.
1 - I don't like how it feels like you are in a car. They have put the seats down inside like a passenger car. My 1995 you sat up inside and looked over the hood. It felt like a truck! I bought a truck, I want it to feel like a truck. I'm hoping when I get my lift it will help some. The ride is great and comfortable, just wish they didn't change that so much.
2 - Also I'm a tall person. I have to put the seat quite a ways back for my knees not to feel cramped, and the steering wheel doesn't pull out very far. I feel like my arms are stretched way out to the steering wheel. I have seen others complain about this.
3 - I love, love, love the Apple play. But...I wish it was wireless! I hate the plugging and unplugging. I know there is something you can buy. But I wish it just came standard. Also the speakers aren't very good. It doesn't sound like there is anything coming from the back. I turned the fader all the way to the back and there is barely anything coming from back there. I will have to upgrade the speakers some day. I have a 2006 GMC duramax, and the Bose speakers rock that truck!! I realize I didn't buy top of the line. Just wish some things were standard.
4 - Transmission ....it has all been said here already. It's getting better the more miles I put on the truck. Maybe I'm getting used to the throttle? But surging in reverse...constant shifting...constant shifting while on cruise...a little bump when you come to a quick stop....revving to high rpm when you barely give it gas. I say to my truck "calm down crazy"!
I didn't get to 5...maybe that's a good thing!! Still love it!!! I know it will hold it's value! Nothing else I want to drive!

You should drive a 1st gen, you will not complain about your $37k truck after that.

The only thing I could wish for is a front passenger grab handle. Not the one on the A pillar but one up top above the window on the headliner. Wife complains about it not having one up there.

If you find a solution let me know! I have searched online for ideas but nothing yet. Thought about doing a paracord handle between the door frame and window.

Technically, all vehicles have an auto-shutoff headlight feature given enough time.

Yup. My wife is always complaining about that no grab handles on the passenger side at the roof line as well. My last truck didn’t have it either so this is a multi truck complaint for her :)

My girlfriend also complains about the no grab handle :)

Adaptive cruise control can be annoying when a car in front of you leaves your lane, and it does downshift harder than if you were accelerating yourself. It’s annoying but I usually take it out of cruise control if I see that happening
