Thanks everyone. I had hoped for a little more time but it wasn't to be. This afternoon, I made the difficult decision to let him go.

Yesterday, he had been anesthetized for an ultrasound. It took him a while to wake up and want to pee. This morning, his tail was up, he ate well and all seemed well. In the early afternoon, he was struggling again. For those that don't know, he was diagnosed with a mass on his spleen and it was bleeding-I tried meds to help control the bleeding but that didn't seem to be working. I really didn't want him to suffer.

He's been gone a couple hours and it's just devastating. He's been on most all of my trips but a few. When he comes home in a couple weeks, I hope to take him on one last trip. I miss him so.

Your chocolate lived a good life with you. I lost a Lab unexpectedly due to a cancerous tumor that busted in her spleen. I thought she had just
hurt her side in a fall. Three days later she went into shock on my kitchen floor and passed away. I was distraught because I didn't get a x ray.
If I did I would have seen her spleen has busted and could have made her last days comfortable. You did the right thing. One day you'll look at
another Lab puppy and know it's time to start again. Each and every Lab I have owned is special in their own way.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It never gets easier.

Back when I lived home we had a lab that was just the best dog you could ask for. When he passed, my father swore up and down he'd never have another dog because of the mark that Luca left on his soul. It wasn't until about two years later that we were talking over a few beers, he'd still get choked up talking about it, but I told him that he wouldn't ever be replacing Luca. He would just be making room in his heart to love another dog. You don't replace dogs, you just can't. But once you've grieved you can make room in your heart to love another.

Keep your head up, brother. That pup was blessed to have you. <3

Made the appointment to have my sweet girl put down tomorrow. 17 year old Australian Shepherd. She's literally the reason I am still alive.

Love 'em while you've got' em, folks.
