So I was researching ribbons and medals so I could build out my shadow box. My old ones are wrecked.
Anyway, HOLY SHIT they are expensive... for 7 ribbons and 4 medals was gonna run me like $150....
Anyone know of a cheaper place to get ribbons and medals on the cheap?

Can't you use ultrathins or some other kind of rack builder?

    JESUS H. FUCKING CHRIST!!!

Sorry. I just went online to the MCSS site and saw the current prices.

Today's GI is getting buttfucked. They're trying to get every last penny of clothing allowance, ain't they?

I used to get my racks made from Ultrathin. With a 24-ribbon rack, it was much cheaper than clothing sales and I didn't have to worry about a frog coming off and getting stabbed.

If you think that's bad, wait until you get a quote for mounting...and that's at the uniform shop on base.

I want to mount my miniature medals in a picture frame, and getting the ones I earned since the last time I had them mounted are going to be extremely pricy. Been dragging my feet...lol

They charge that because almost every order that comes for that service is being paid foe by Uncle Sugar.

I cannot believe it... I remember when I was in, it was .25 cents for a fucking ribbon... now they want $4 for sea service deployment? GTFOH with that noise.... Ultra Thin or regular... doesnt matter.... even the little aluminum mounting racks are pricey.... im about to go find a drunk CPO out by the base and snatch his ribbons....

Yes, serious. If I need ribbons, dolphins, rank slip-ons, shoulder flashes, etc, I walk into clothing stores and get (assuming they actually have stock) whatever I need, within reason. No cost, no clothing allowance points.

Nope, not a cent. Ribbons, ribbon boards, medals, medal mounting, name tapes, rank insignia, specialty badges, trade badges... no cost at all. Clothing allowance covers our dress and undress uniforms. Operational clothing ("workdress") and accouterments are all no cost.

When I made TSgt I dropped my entire clothing allowance on a mess dress uniform, and at that time I was rocking a 21-medal rack. When I made MSgt I was up to 24. If it wasn’t for flatrack making my blues and mess dress racks, that would have easily been another $100.

Based on the current allowances (and how much the new uniform items cost) there’s no way to keep up without dipping into your beer money.

All three; logistics are what we call a 'purple' trade and irrespective of uniform work in any element. It's perfectly normal to see a naval storesman working in an infantry unit or an army cook on a ship.
