Never did get around to installing this in my 2009 Tacoma... thinking about going a different direction now so if anyone is in the market, I’ll let mine go (with canbus wiring harness) below retail. Never been installed, only taken out of the box one or two times. DM me if interested. If I don’t hear anything, I’ll post it in the for sale forum.

Got it installed! It's awesome. I used a glue gun to secure the hazard housing.
I downloaded Agama and boy is it sweet.

My rear view camera is in my mirror so I'm not doing anything yet. But mine came w the converter wiring.

I ordered a OBD2 reader and downloaded Torque.

    I ordered a USB 3.0 CD/DVD Player for $15.

More updates will follow but I'm really stoaked about it.signal-2020-12-08-145844.jpg

Wow, my wife apparently saw I had this in the Amazon viewing history and ordered it for my Christmas present and didn’t say anything. Ups driver dropped it off today. I have it half ass installed and made it about 30 pages tonight reading the thread and in throwing in the towel for now. Lol, I need to bump the post because it’s buried 3 pages deep in my subbed threads and I’m gonna have some questions when I get time to take back it out and snag a pic unless someone knows where the fat grey wire on the truck side plugs in or what it is. I couldn’t find it talked about in what I’ve read so far. I’m a non JBL, no tech, back up camera in the mirror if that helps.

Any ideas why my screen would blink fast:annoyed: It’s not turning off the unit. Doesn’t matter where I go in the apps or settings, music plays fine uninterrupted, I can log on the internet, watch YouTube, whatever I want to do. I turned the truck off for a bit and let it sit and turned it back in and it’s still flashing. It does feel warm on the screen to the touch, maybe it’s hot and in a protection mode :notsure: I went from blown away cloud 9 super stoked to I’m about to punt this back across the ocean to China. :frusty:

You can try this forum website for help and you might need to update it. If that fails contact dasaita, their usually pretty helpful.

I hunted it down and found this link tucked away in the Tundra forum. Lol, I was digging deep today. Easy fix... turn down the brightness to 90%. I did it and zero issues since. Well from that, I managed to epoxy my hazard switch:facepalm:I hot glued it and didn’t have any luck first. I had some clear gorilla epoxy. I taped everything up and dabbed it in there with a couple pop cycle sticks. I managed to get some in the screen too. Rubbing alcohol cleaned everything up really nice. I was to free up the hazard switch which a utility knife and dilute the epoxy was which the rubbing alcohol and a q tip. I kept working it till it would pop in and out on its own. I kept working it every 5 minutes or so till all the other epoxy got hard. For the record I didn’t put it on the switch it ran a big glob over there when things were still soft:anonymous:

Lol sounds like you had a hell of time. Well glad you figured it all out. If you find yourself stuck again and no one is helping here, you can find that most of the questions are previously answered in this thread or on the XDA website. Enjoy the new HU.

Not my pig, not my farm. But that looks vaguely coaxial. Could it be the OEM radio antenna and gps lead respectively?

I've got a 2013 non-JBL without nav. That lower left looks familiar in that way.

I just left it unplugged and everything works fine. I think it may have been for the USB. I ordered up a new usb outlet, backup camera harness and snagged some M4 screws, lock washers and washers. I’ll go back in there when I buy an amp, front camera and finish it all up. I think once all the little bugs and quirks are worked out these are a pretty sweet unit.

True that. If you used the Dasaito provide GPS, then the OEM GPS is surplus. I plugged the traditional antenna plug into the radio, but didn't realize the harness part was disconnected. On top of that, the unit came with the incorrect Americas frequency selected. I could just barely make out a station and it took a while to hunt down all the places to get it corrected.

There is a definite learning curve to this beast. I really, really wanted apple carplay, but after getting it working and using it for a bit, I went full native android and haven't looked back.

I tried using hot glue for the sub panel (wish they made a gen 2.5 specific bezel). I had the bad habit of grabbing that piece when replacing the unit and snapping it out again. I eventually went with some 1/16 thick 1/2 wide aluminum and fabricated a holder. It was actually easier than I thought. I'll snap some pics next time it's out and show the approach. I had to give up on drilling the correct hole in the bracket to match up to the HU (after slowly zeroing in, the optimum hole was right on the slope of the gusset). I actually ended up using doubled sided velcro and its worked like a champ (as long as the top three snap connectors stay solid).

It's been interesting learning the Android nuances. These things are a hackers delight.

I’m probably gonna get a little crazy and take out the whole center console. That way I can snap the radio back in and Mark it and be able to pop out the usb. I think it will save a lot of aggravation lining up the holes and fighting the plug. https://www.bing.com/videos/search?view=detail&mid=8620299EAB80C41238FD8620299EAB80C41238FD&q=removing+tacoma+center+console&shtp=GetUrl&shid=23e182f4-b2ab-48b0-b24f-714b7317524e&shtk=VG95b3RhIFRhY29tYSBDZW50ZXIgQ29uc29sZSBSZW1vdmFsICYgUGFpbnRpbmcgVHV0b3JpYWw=&shdk=Rm9sbG93IHRoaXMgdHV0b3JpYWwgdG8gcmVtb3ZlIHlvdXIgMm5kIEdlbiBUYWNvbWEgY2VudGVyIHN0ZXJlbyBjb25zb2xlLiBQYWludGluZyB0aXBzIGFyZSBpbmNsdWRlZCBhZnRlciB0aGUgcmVtb3ZhbCBwb3J0aW9uIG9mIHRoZSB2aWRlby4gVG9vbHMgTmVlZGVkOiBUcmltIFJlbW92YWwgU2V0OiBodHRwczovL2Ftem4udG8vMzQ4RDJnWiBTZWxmLUV0Y2hpbmcgUHJpbWVyOiBodHRwczovL2Ftem4udG8vMlJhRFhyRSBGbGF0IEJsYWNrIFBhaW50OiBodHRwczovL2Ftem4udG8vMlg5WmRsdCAjdGFjb21haG9saWMgI3RveW90YXRhY29tYSAjdGFjb21hbW9kcyDvuI/ihpJBd2Vzb21lIFRhY29tYSAuLi4=&shhk=RoTB7TzT1lUY7WqMk/lKFQrmIVuw+I60hXXa3MzZF60=&form=VDSHOT&shth=OSH.wrrzg%2BZgMRv7FegYLql98w

I've used that video for pulling pieces out before. Very doable, just be prepared to invest considerable time (and keep track of all the bolts, just so you don't get it all buttoned up and have "bonus" parts left).

If you want to avoid pulling out the lower console piece just to install a new USB blank, there is an adpater that will let you use the existing USB port wit the HU. Check out https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BCCK5N3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I'm using it with mine and it works great. I have the other two with a surface mount in the glovebox and in the blanks by the left hand of driver side.

I accidentally pushed one of the yellow clips out the back so I’ve already had it out once but didn’t have the M4 screws and the other wiring I need to button it up 100%. Lol, that’s how I ended up finding the video. I like the idea of the extension and putting the others in the glovebox. Not sure why I would need 3 but this will be the last time I want to go in there.

You'll be pulling out the HU every once in awhile. Trust me :D. I constantly pull the thing out to add cameras, usb ports, charging ports, hdmi, etc. The options are endless. Make sure to use the blanks you have rather than running a wire to your glove box. You'll be happy you did!

Don't dread pulling out the center console bezel. It was super easy with the guidance of @boogie3478 's step by step video. I had mine removed, painted and reinstalled in one afternoon.

About that HDMI cable output, forgive me I’m not a super techy person, hows that work? Could I stream from my say Direct TV account to a TV being ran in our wall tent of a generator from the Dasaita? I saw on Amazon there are up to 75’ HDMI cables. It would be pretty freaking rad to watch some football over in our Elk camp.

I'm still working that one out. The HDMI cord on the back of the head unit is an output not an input. (Meaning that video can only come from the headunit not streamed to it) My plan was to plug in my fire stick for long road trips for the lady but the wiring does not go that way. I'm currently trying to figure out a hdmi rca split.

Anyways, Well yes and no. I wouldnt use the headunit for that unless you were watching a game in the truck, in the driver seat. That would be too much work for what you want to do. I would recommend buying a fire stick. You would plug it into your tv, download and log into the direct TV app (assuming you have a strong unlimited WiFi source while camping) and boom, good to go. That's how I would go about that and have done for many of camping, bbqs and tailgating.
