    Hello all!

I'm new here, though Ive been lurking for a few weeks. Ive got a 2017 Tacoma OR edition with 35k miles. I bought it certified from the Toyota dealer.

I'm working on starting a build list. I like doing some mild to moderate off-roading (so fairly muddy two tracks where I like to go camping), and I go camping quite often. It is also my daily driver.

My current question: what TSBs should I convince the dealer to do? There appears to be a ton of them. I know I want to do the one for the AT, because that thing shifts like garbage. What else is particularly important for these trucks, especially at low mileage. I am effected by the fuel pump recall, but they dont know when I will be able to get one. Luckily the truck still runs, but it runs pretty rough on occasion.

Any other recommended upgrades for someone like me? Stuff Im already looking into:
    Better headlights
    Bed cover
    Tacoma interior and exterior letters
    Skid Plate

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on choosing the best color!

My pavement princess is all stock so I can't help with your mod list, other members are always glad to jump right in and help you -- spend your money...

Best advice: Put your credit card in a vault and lose the combination -- this place gets expensive.:spending:

Welcome to Tacoma World! Run the vin # to see what TSBs are available for your
truck on Toyota’s website. Use the search tool and enter “suspension” etc on this forum before creating a thread as most of your answers are already here. A lot of people tune their trucks to get better transmission and engine performance.
Ovtune, D3 performance etc. Don’t skimp on your suspension, you will hate yourself. Have fun!

Take it out stock, go slow, and see what you actually need. For mild trails, you may not need anything, except for maybe a mud or AT tire.

Headlights - there are only a few good options.
Bed Cover - bed mat or tonneau? For mat OEM, for tonneau lots of good options depending on what you want/need
Lettering - doing tailgate and something else?
Skid Plate - lots of options here too, see a lot of people grabbing the Pro skid plate on the OR if they aren't doing any extensive crawling.

    And welcome to TW.

OVTune, Rock Slider, Wheels/Tires, Skids if you'll think you need then.

If you have a laptop and the cable to hookup to the truck, you can do TSBs yourself.

Wow. Already an overwhelming number of replies. You guys are great!

I've already read through the masters level dissertation on headlights that crash created on here, and think I'm going to just start with better H9 bulbs and see how I feel about that.
I'm looking to get the OEM bed mad, as well as a Bakflip F1 cover.

I'm planning to do the tailgate lettering and the glove box, and possibly remove the badging and black them out. (I really hate chrome). In that same vein, also want to get rid of the chrome grill. I've toyed with the idea of plasti-dipping it, but I did that to my ram and it chipped off so quick it wasn't really worth it.

The pro skid plate is probably what I was looking at. Don't really need rock sliders. Not many rocks to climb in lower Michigan.

I've seen people doing the OVTune to fix the transmission issues. Is it still an improvement over the TSB that is supposed to improve the shifting? Is it worth the cost?

Right now it's got Blizzaks on it for the winter, but it will get some decent ATs this summer.

I could take a current picture, but right now it's covered in road salt (thanks Michigan). So here's a picture from when I bought it in October.

    Welcome to the madness!

I recently bought a '21 OR and I have been struggling between the desire to change things around on it and following my own advice which is to wait a bit before modifying my new truck. Just because others go out and spend thousands of dollars so they can profile through mall parking lots, doesn't mean that you should do the same. Your OR should already have a skid plate that will work fine for most off roading, but I have to admit that I personally like the looks of the Pro skid plate and I believe it is probably a stronger unit.

Headlights - there is a novel here that I tired to read through at one point. A few glasses of wine and a Black Friday Sale made it so I now have Morimoto XB Headlights. Love them, good upgrade from stock but the look is just amazing.

Lettering - I did both tailgate and glove box, love the look of both. I'm slowly phasing out all the interior chrome with the Meso kits (I hate chrome too). For grill the obvious answer that a lot of people have is the Pro grill, it looks good and can be easily found.

Skid Plate - You might be able to find one local, check out the classified ads in both the marketplace and then the area midwest thread.

OVTune - Check out this thread https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/shellshocks-midwest-tuning-thread.672327/

Welcome! Learn some first about the truck & if you want to spend $$ on mods - I recommend getting tires first. They’re pricey but new badass tires will make the truck quite sexy

Welcome - I am a stock guy myself so I will not be contributing much (LOL). I will say to me the glove box and center console organizer (off Amazon) is a HUGE addition for me and let's me stay organized better utilizing the space. The bed mat has helped as well. Enjoy and be safe!

if your tacoma is out of factory warranty, unless it is a recall, i believe the TSB's don't apply unless the owner gets them performed, hopefully the dealer has taken care of them, ask them and see if they have done any?

Take your time and focus on the most useful daily improvements. My transmission would hunt around when new, especially on hills, and would hold on to lower gears for too long, but after about 5,000 miles it started behaving and works very well now. Easy and useful things were a bed mat, LED bulbs on the interior, Steelcraft tube steps, RekGen mud flaps, and Subaru tweeters. Everything else (Meso taillights and turn signals, raised lettering, etc.) is pretty much cosmetic.

Welcome and congratulations on a good looking truck.
I can't advise on lifts and tires as I'm still mostly stock too.
Check out the forum section on caps and covers. There are lots of options for those, in both hard and soft options. I picked the Lomax hard tri fold. Seems well made for a good price.

There are plenty of threads on tires and suspension here too and there are forum discussions for that here too.
Have fun and don't rush ur mods

Welcome to the forum. Tons of choices for your grille, just start searching options and remember that any year Gen 3 grille will fit but obviously you won’t have to worry about the electronics of 18’s and higher. Here’s what I ended up with.
