Kinda scary, would not have been a great time to get to the hospital in a hurry. I remember it took me 6 hours to go from Chapel Hill to Wake Forest, which is normally a 40 min drive. I had to pee in a Styrofoam cup twice.

Was that the same year as the famous photo of the car burning in I40 in Raleigh area?

I wouldn't have another one, but I spend something like 25 weeks in Boone that year on project so that 60 MPG was A-Ok

    This is enlightening to me.

I live in Columbus Ohio and am close to retirement. I come to Statesville several times a year for work and have always looked forward to the change in climate while there. Your statement is understandable but from my perspective if I never see snow and clouds again I would be ecstatic! They way they spread salt and brine around here is unbelievable. My gen 1 Taco has to be fluid filmed twice a year. Can't take it anymore! I am discussing with my wife permanent relocating to NC or SC, or at the very least snowbird down there.

Any general suggestions of good towns to consider and avoid?

Thats an amazing pic. RTP got like a foot Jan 2018 but I was still living in TX at the tine trying to fly here for work. Direct IAH to RDU wasn't happening and United wanted to route me through DC. I passed....

I would say it depends on where your work is. If you still were in working in Statesville then I'd say you'd want to look at Mooresville, Denver, Cornelius, Huntersville, Davidson, Concord-ish.

Statesville sucks, my in-laws live there.

You're not wrong, but we see it so rarely that snow is a novelty for most of us. Truth is, when it does snow, it's a huge pain in the ass. We dont have the equipment to deal with it, not enough plows, salt spreaders. And nobody knows how to drive it it. Even an inch or two will shut schools down for a couple days.

NC is great, we have great beaches and decent mountains. What part of the state you pick depends on access you'd like to each of those and your budget.

it's hilarious because SO MANY people in the Triangle area are transplants from up north...so you'd think they all know how to drive in the 2" of snow we get per year.

I don't know much else about Statesville other than the facility I visit. Definitely open for suggestions. I live in Dublin Ohio, and from a demographics perspective I would like to find something similar. If anybody down there knows Dublin??

Wife likes beach side more than mountains, so I guess my mind is made up! LOL. Not thinking of living that close to the beach unless we RV down there in the winter only.

True, but I think a lot of them come from urban areas (I see a shit ton of NY and NJ tags...) where they salt and plow roads so down here where snow is rare and plowing doesn't happen frequently, they panic.

That photo looks like if Mad Max was filmed in Winter....

I don't mind the northern NY transplants, because they are rednecks like us (if you get my drift).

Totally worth the investment. Get a good one too, front and rear if you can afford it.

4 way stops, roundabouts, and the new diverging diamond interchange are the worst for bad drivers, they can't comprehend how it works..I can't tell you how many times people run the yield at a roundabout and I have to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting them.

Next fucker who does it, assuming my kids aren't with me, is getting a face full of steel bumper.
