It is yes. 3 phase 120/208. Changing 2 phases on a motor reverses the start winding which will change direction of the motor.

At my last job we were renovating our office and one of my co-workers was an electrician. The electrical panels weren't labelled (building was built in the '40's and renovated a few times) and the other half of our building was a dentists office so we couldn't just start turning stuff off so he did it hot.

Until he was wiring a receptacle, accidentally arced the terminals with his pliers and the breaker didn't trip.

That Friday we had everything we could shut down, plugged lamps into receptacles and documented EVERYTHING.

I will never work on something live and opening a panel scares the shit out of me.

Next on the chopping block is this. Have to cut it apart and replace the screen. It’s all 316SS, except for the oily wafer looking filter sandwiched in the middle. Then weld it back together.

We have some buildings like that here. Nothing labeled and a guess at best for some panels, common with a 160 year old campus. When I first started here I’d hide when the guy I worked with changed out breakers hot. 7 years doing it here have made me a little numb to it. Although One time changing a switch I couldn’t find the breaker, and I did look for like 30 minutes. I ended up forgetting it was hot and grabbed one of the screws I had just wired without thinking. It was a 277 lighting circuit, and it wasn’t pleasant. The students in that lab learned a few new words that day.

I’ve always been curious about this stuff. I heard it’s great for filler on parts that are going to be powder coated since it can withstand the curing temps.
As for the splines, I would think there’d be too much pressure and movement for any 2 part filler to withstand.
My initial thought would be a supplement key way with key stock.

I’m afraid an epoxy type won’t withstand the pressure either, probably just put some welds on and grind them down. It would be a job to take this out and put it in the mill.

There's all kinds of amazing products out there. When I started here there was a 2 part metal patch called Devcon. I never used it but guys said it worked good. I was thinking plain old JB in the splines then slip hub on then off, clean out hub, let cure, emry cloth sand paper clean up. You could always check it see how its holding. It be a long tedious process to weld then mill with index.

Maybe the piece inside is 316SS too. Been a while since I did one of these.

Are you just replacing the screen? Or do you have replacement honeycomb material as well? That looks shot!

No it doesn't. The inner part is aluminum, boss called the customer so he can make the call as to what he wants to do.
